Jason Lambert, 37
President
USA/Docufinish, Yorkville, Ill.
During his studies at Pittsburg State University, Jason Lambert earned some extra cash as a typesetter for a forms manufacturer. It didn’t take long for him to realize that his passions were more aligned with the sales and business side of the operation. From there, Lambert spent his time learning alongside press operators, collator operators and even shift operators. His efforts paid off, and, after graduation, he landed a customer service job. Within a few short years, Lambert accepted an outside sales representative position with USA/Docufinish that enabled him to work from his home office in Kansas City. He was later promoted to vice president of sales and marketing and, in 2012, Lambert relocated to the Chicago area near the company’s headquarters, and changed titles once again — to vice president of production and operations. Two years later, he took over as president, and the rest is history.
Why he loves the industry: I love this industry because it is constantly evolving with improvements to technology and products. That makes it challenging and exciting at the same time. There is nothing better than exceeding customers’ expectations and being a part of their print needs.
Age roadblocks and advantages: It is very easy to slip into a “business-as-usual” mentality. Because this industry is constantly changing, it is a challenge to constantly be looking at new ways to service customers and manage business. Also, the industry has a deep history, and there is much knowledge beyond my years that I am constantly seeking.
His biggest career influence: Over the years, I have had many mentors, and all of them have been great. I have to say that Stephen McKillip, the founder of USA/Docufinish, has been a significant influence in my career, and [has influenced] growth in business, sales and even [me] personally.
His most meaningful business accomplishment: The most meaningful accomplishment has been the ongoing progress I have made growing into numerous roles and tackling all aspects of business. I have always strived to learn everything I can and I’m always looking for the next challenge.
His differentiating factor: The most important thing that I focus on to compete against those formidable opponents is to lead and constantly develop a team of professionals. This, in turn, makes what we do professional and service-oriented.
What he does for fun: What spare time? These days I have two young children, and I try to spend as much as my time that I can with them. I also enjoy cooking and creative marketing.
