KENNESAW, Ga. — July 20, 2017 — Heidelberg USA announced that Quad/Graphics, a global marketing services provider, has recently invested in four new Heidelberg Speedmaster presses to support its commercial, packaging and in-store platforms. The investment reflects Quad/Graphics’ long-standing commitment to using leading-edge technology to help brand owners market their products, services and content more efficiently and effectively through print in combination with other media channels.
Unique Commercial Capabilities
Quad/Graphics’ Dallas location — part of the company’s Commercial & Specialty group, which focuses on short-run and print-on-demand catalogs, case-bound books, direct mail and promotional items — recently purchased a Speedmaster XL 106-8P+L with X4 delivery. This press is the first in the world to be equipped with 3 types of UV capabilities: full UV, LE UV and LED.
This elite hybrid press reaches speeds up to 18,000 sheets per hour with makereadies of less than 4 minutes. The eight-color Heidelberg XL 106 perfector outshines the competition in terms of productivity and efficiency. In fact, users of the XL 106 often produce well over 50 million sheets per year.
“Our Dallas plant has a reputation for award-winning quality printing and forward-thinking innovation on behalf of leading brands,” says Tim Ohnmacht, Quad/Graphics president of Marketing Solutions. “Our latest press investment makes this an exciting time for Quad and our customers as we continue to provide the most advanced and integrated end-to-end marketing solutions.”
Packaged to Perfection – In Two Locations
Quad/Graphics’ packaging division, known as QuadPackaging, also has invested in a new Speedmaster XL 106 press for its newly expanded operations in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The new, larger facility, which opened in February 2017, has already doubled its production capacity. It delivers top-quality packaging materials for the cigar, pharmaceutical, medical device, apparel and other industries.
“By outfitting our facility with state-of-the-art equipment like the Speedmaster XL 106, we will be able to deliver premium-quality packaging to clients closer to where their products are created within the Dominican Republic, which improves timeliness and cost-efficiency, not to mention convenience,” notes Tom Garland, president of QuadPackaging.
In addition to the Dominican Republic location, QuadPackaging also made a recent investment in a new Speedmaster XL 106 press for its Spartanburg, South Carolina location.
With the two new XL 106 investments, QuadPackaging is expanding overall capacity, quality and performance to best support its growing customer base for both plants.
Expanded Point of Purchase
Quad/Graphics Europe, conveniently located in Poland to cost-effectively serve Europe’s printing needs, will install a Speedmaster VLF (Very Large Format) press for its point of purchase business segment. The Speedmaster VLF press will help the plant produce various types of packaging and floor displays with complex shapes and structures, serving the food, cosmetics, chemical, motor, alcohol and textile industries.
With industry-leading speeds, quality and makeready performance, Heidelberg’s VLF platform is fit to serve both the short-run display market as well as high-volume leaders in the packaging industry.
Heidelberg recently celebrated the installation of its 1,000th VLF printing unit.
Unbeatable Partnership
Heidelberg and Quad/Graphics have a long-standing partnership built on innovation and operational excellence.
“We are thrilled to continue this partnership as they begin this next chapter and engage new opportunities,” relays Ed Young, VP, National Accounts for Heidelberg USA.
