Installation of Wind Turbine at Phoenix Press a Success - Slideshow

Installation of the wind turbine started with digging a ditch for a power line from the turbine to the building.

Phoenix Press owner Brian Driscoll personally demonstrates the scale of the wind turbine's foundation.

Workers from Alteris Renewables—the Wilton, CT-based company that completed the installation—had to climb down inside to secure the foundation. A dewatering step was required because of the turbine’s close proximity to a river.

Workers were able to keep their feet on the ground while attaching the blades to the rotor, which was then hoisted into position at the top the wind turbine shaft.

Like the wind turbine itself, the installation crew wasn't dependent on the sun to do its work as the team worked into the night to erect the first section of the shaft.

Snow was falling as the third and final section of the wind turbine's shaft was lifted into postion and secured.

Phoenix Press adorned the nacelle of the trubine with its logo, enabling its commitment to clean energy to be visible from far and wide. The nacelle is where the power is actually generated.

Workers are dwarfed by the struture as they secure the rotor/blade assembly to complete the wind turbine. This unit can produce electricity with breezes as gentle as six miles per hour and handles wind speeds high as 55 mph before its automatic brake system slows the blades.

Owner Brian Driscoll took a ride up in a bucket to get a unique perspective on the completed project, with New Haven harbor providing a scenic backdrop.
