I just hung up on a sales rep.
Originally, I reached out to his firm to learn more about their services. We had to reschedule a few times over the last few weeks. Finally, we were about to connect.
He starts out asking lots of questions about Proforma and the project on which I was working. I asked him what he knew about Proforma, to which he replied, “not a ton.”
That’s when I hung up.
There is no excuse in today’s business world for not doing a minimum amount of homework before a sales call.
In 5 minutes, 10 minutes tops, he could have had an adequate overview of our company and my role.
Instead, he knew nothing.
Think how differently the call would have gone if he had said, “I’ve done some research into you and your company and I’m very impressed and excited to learn more and see how we might be of service.”
How you show up matters. It matters in sales. It matters in life.
Do your homework.
