The Moment Coco Gauff Lost
I was watching the US Open tennis championship a few weeks ago. The TV was a good distance away from me at the pizza joint in Nashville where I was having dinner. Problem was, I’d left my glasses at the hotel and everything was a little fuzzy.
I couldn’t read the score.
I couldn’t read the names of the players.
What I was able to read was body language.
From all the way across the bar, I could see that one player was defeated.
I got up and walked closer to get a better look. The match was well into the first set and Coco Gauff was playing Caroline Garcia. Garcia was controlling the play and her opponent was deeply frustrated. I didn’t need a TV zoom-in to recognize it. Despite the fact they were only in their fifth or sixth game, the match was effectively over.
That’s what Gauff’s body language told me. She would lose in straight sets.
How you carry yourself and your physical appearance is a nuance of sales. Slump your shoulders and dress like you don’t care and you might as well yell, “Don’t buy from me!”
The confident walk with their head up and chest out. There is a gleam in their eye and a smile on their face. They float. It’s as if they know something the rest of us don’t and the entire picture attracts success.
Your body language must mirror your self-image and your self-belief. It costs nothing to feel and look confident and yet it can means everything when it comes to sales.
Make certain prospects and customers see the you you want to be.
