Let me ask you something: would you pay $400 to get access to the marketing departments of 20 key accounts in your area?
Now, by "key accounts," I am talking about actual contact either by phone or in person. $400 for 20 accounts. Seems like a no-brainer, doesn’t it?
Have a look at this...
What you are looking at is the sign that served as the starting line to a charity event that I participated in a few weeks ago called the Rodman Ride. It is put on by a car dealership opposite Gillette Stadium where the (four-time World Champion) New England Patriots play. The founder of Rodman Ford, Don Rodman, holds this event every year as a way of helping causes that benefit children. He matches any money that participants raise, up to 6 percent.
In the process, he picks up some important corporate sponsors. And because each of those companies wants to get recognized, their names and logos are added to the promotional literature. That means someone needs to get in touch with each of those companies, typically through the marketing department, and collect artwork in order to print the banner.
Do you see where I’m headed with this?
Whomever printed this banner got approved access to a lot of very attractive companies. I asked a couple of clients how much it would cost to print up such a banner and they told me it would be about $400 (retail). That seems to me to be an awfully cheap price for such amazing access.
We all get hit up for donations and discounts and charity work and we all do what we can. But there are some events, such as this one, where we should be the ones soliciting the opportunity to donate. Not only is it the right thing to do but it also serves as an outstanding prospecting opportunity.
