Though developer Foulger-Pratt now aims to turn the warehouse at 301 N St. NE into a buzzy retail building along the lines of The Shay and Atlantic Plumbing in Shaw, in its heyday, the building would hum with a different kind of energy — that of the constant run of printing presses.
As home to the National Capital Press Co., the 40,000-square-foot warehouse was one of many printing operations in the neighborhood, which became hub of manufacturing in the early 20th century.
