Hearing of the devastation in Japan, Rick Tardiff's thoughts turned first not to the multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art printing press his company is having built in Tokyo, but to the people building it. “I was worried about the people, very much so,” said Tardiff, who was so intimately involved in the design of the printing press, he went to Tokyo himself to work on it, though he wasn’t there at the time of the disaster.
The machine is still slated to arrive in Augusta (ME) this summer, as the centerpiece of a $5 million, 22,000-square-foot expansion at Augusta-based J.S. McCarthy Printers.
