A private-equity-owned printing company says it laid off 63 employees—49 in Vorhees (NJ) and 14 in Secaucus—after it lost two “major” contracts worth $10 million. AFL Quality Inc., of Vorhees, said it laid off the workers on Tuesday due to “unforeseeable business circumstances.”
Patrick LoPresti, president of Local 1-L of the Amalgamated Lithographers of America…said he heard that AFL had lost the contract to print copies of Metro, a free newspaper handed to commuters in New York and Philadelphia.
The union has for three years sought to organize the company’s workers, and has been trying to negotiate a contract
