ITASCA, Ill.—June 25, 2015—ABS Graphics showcased its new 130,000-square-foot facility in the western suburbs of Chicago at an open house on Thursday, June 18. Hundreds of clients, vendors and industry representatives arrived for guided tours of the exciting new facility as well as refreshments, raffle items and entertainment.
ABS made the big move to the larger facility last January in order to combine two facilities and consolidate numerous print processes, finishing, mailing and fulfillment services at one location. It was no small task to move presses of that size to a new facility while still maintaining 'business as usual.' “It was our goal to ensure that we made this move seamlessly without our clients experiencing any adverse effects," stated Russ Babka, president of ABS. "And to make it even more challenging, we needed to begin moving in the middle of our busiest season—the Holidays! Thanks to a great team of employees and leadership, ABS accomplished a smooth and successful transition to a fantastic new facility!”
According to Tony Amaro, senior vice president of sales, “Not only has this move allowed ABS to custom design workflows for maximum production efficiencies, our clients now have greater control over their projects from start to finish and quality control is optimized. We can respond promptly to unique and time-sensitive requests.”
Tony Galatte, general manager at ABS, went on to say, “It’s not often that a company gets presented with a clean slate to transform production workflows, as well as additional space to invest in new and innovative technology that allows us to expand our capabilities. It’s an exciting time for ABS! We’re pleased to be growing and better able to satisfy our clients’ needs.”
Clients and vendors affirmed ABS’s extensive capabilities and well-developed processes during the tours. One client remarked, “ABS is very organized and process oriented! I love how your departments are laid out! Most printing plants are a jumbled mess, but ABS is broken down by departments with synergies and workflows between them that make sense.” Another vendor commented, “What a clean plant! Well organized, well laid-out and it’s huge! You guys have everything!”
Some of the highlights of the open house tours included new and advanced equipment including the 56” KBA sheetfed press. The 56” KBA press is rare within the industry and doubles the through-put of a standard 40” press. In addition to increased speed and efficiency, this press allows companies to efficiently print larger signage while experiencing the versatility and quality of the sheetfed press.
The Packsize custom box-making machine received a great deal of attention as well. This technology allows ABS to custom engineer packaging onsite in order to best protect client materials during shipping and delivery. Packaging materials required are minimized which reduces overall production and shipping costs, as well as environmental impact. The Packsize is the perfect complement to the data-driven kitting, fulfillment and distribution departments.
National brand retailers were particularly impressed with the state-of-the art viewing areas with lighting and environment designed for the most accurate color and quality checks. A simulated storefront viewing panel was created for clients requiring window displays at brick and mortar locations.
High security measures were evident throughout the pass code-protected offices and plant. Guests from financial, healthcare, human resource and retail corporations were pleased to learn more about the secure data management procedures which are strictly adhered to in day to day operations.
