Crane Accident Claims Worker’s Life

HOUSTON—A crane accident cost the life of a printing company employee here last month. According to the Houston Chronicle, 41-year-old Cesar Gomez died after the one-ton lift truck he was operating toppled onto him, causing a puncture wound to his head. Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chronicle, quoting investigators, reported that he had been trying to maneuver the crane to another location. The crane's base failed and the machine fell over, pinning Gomez. Employees worked to free the victim from underneath the crane.

According to the paper, police said that the crane's maximum capacity is one ton and Gomez may have topped that limit by several hundred pounds, though police are still investigating the incident. No charges had been filed.
