Acme Printing’s Francis Canzano Dies

WILMINGTON, MA—Francis Canzano Jr., president of Acme Printing, died Oct. 13 after a long battle with cancer. He was 67. A member of the Boston Litho Club, Mr. Canzano won numerous national and international awards in the graphic arts industry. He was inducted into the Printing Impressions/RIT Printing Industry Hall of Fame in 1999.

Since its founding in 1930, Acme Printing remained a privately held business operated by the Canzano family until April 1998, when it was acquired by the commercial division of the former World Color, which subsequently merged to become Quebecor World in November 1999.

Acme became a division of The MATLET Group in 2005.

Mr. Canzano began his full-time career at Acme in 1965. He became vice president of sales in 1969, then was appointed president in 1982. In 1998, judges selected Acme as the Sappi International Printer of the Year from among 1,300 other printers in a worldwide competition. Mr. Canzano also held leadership positions with the Boston Litho Club, Boston Club of Printing House Craftsmen, PINE and PIA.

To replace Mr. Canzano, Acme Printing named 23-year company veteran George Farraher to the post of president. Farraher is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology.
