CALIFORNIA
BUENA PARK—Ernest A. Lindner, printer, collector and founder of the International Printing Museum, passed away on October 2.
BURBANK—Richard Rice, president of Candlelight Press, announced that two long-term employees, Richard Alonzo and James Magdaleno, are the USA National Print Olympics champions. The competition was held during PRINT 01 in Chicago, where the contestants were evaluated on their offset press skills. Alonzo and Magdaleno qualified for the national event after winning the western regional competition. They will contend for an international championship at IPEX, held in Birmingham, England, in April 2002.
SAN RAMON—K/P Corp. recently announced a collaboration with Ariba Inc., a business-to-business e-commerce solutions provider, that enables K/P to offer its Web fulfillment and ClickOn printing services through the Ariba Commerce Services Network. K/P's Web fulfillment sites offer companies a way to manage literature and product distribution programs online. The ClickOn ordering system allows customers to customize and order business cards, letterhead, envelopes and other business stationery items via the Internet.
CONNECTICUT
WINDSOR—Integrity Graphics is running a new Komori Lithrone sheetfed press equipped with a ColorCommand temperature control/cooling system from TriService.
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
WASHINGTON—Peake Printers was a gold sponsor of AIDS Walk Washington 2001 recently. In addition to donating in-kind printing services, Peake Printers formed an internal team of walkers for the event.
FLORIDA
CLEARWATER—Color Spectrum Printing has expanded its facility to 12,000 square feet and installed an eight-color SuperWeb 205 UV web press. It is equipped with Prime UV interstation curing units, and a Perretta Graphics ink control system with console and plate scanner. The new press complements Color Spectrum's six-color sheetfed operation. Other equipment installed included a Baum 726 continuous feed folder, C.P. Bourg Modulen 11-station collator/stitcher and a Heidelberg Polar cutter.
HOLLYWOOD—A second 40˝ Komori Lithrone press has been installed at Crooks Printing. The unit is a fully automated, six-color machine with in-line coater and Komori's PDC-S scanning spectrodensitometer.
MIAMI—3 Dimension Graphics has installed its second Komori press, a six-color Lithrone 40.
ILLINOIS
CHICAGO—Jeffrey P. Diemand, president of Diemand Printing, announced the installation of a new eight-color Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 8-P-5 sheetfed perfecting press in the company's South Loop manufacturing facility. Diemand says the press will allow the company to produce high-quality work with the cost and productivity of a web press, while offering sheetfed press scheduling flexibility.
NILES—In conjunction with PRINT 01, Universal Press President Jory Siegel participated in a panel discussion at an APM Seminars event for 25 visiting Japanese printing executives. The group later visited the Universal facility to see its recently completed 36,000-square-foot addition.
INDIANA
INDIANAPOLIS—Print Communications has purchased a new 16-unit Print King IV heatset web press complete with remote register and four combination folders. The press was installed in the company's new 14,000-square-foot building addition. Print Communications also has installed mailing equipment, consisting of ink-jet, labeling and inserting capabilities.
Ross-Gage Indexing has installed what it claims is the world's first totally automatic thumb indexing machine. The machine counts pages, cuts to the specific page and affixes tabs automatically.
KENTUCKY
NICHOLASVILLE—Gulf States Litho has installed a TriService central ink pumping system on its six-color, 56˝ MAN Roland 900 press. Designed for expansion to include additional presses in the future, the system is currently pumping four-color process inks to the press, with multiple drops to provide for ink color rotation.
MASSACHUSETTS
BROCKTON—Full-service printer Inkstone, based here, has acquired On-Cape Lithographers, of Hyannis. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Retaining its name, On-Cape Lithographers, which focuses on fine art reproduction, is now established as the museum services division of Inkstone.
CANTON—Artco Offset has taken delivery of a new six-color, 40˝ Komori Lithrone press equipped with a 7.5 ton capacity TriService ColorCommand temperature control/cooling system.
NORTH ANDOVER—Flagship Press has installed a new six-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi 3F press. It is outfitted with a TriService ColorCommand single-zone temperature control system.
MICHIGAN
BIG RAPIDS—The Printing and Imaging Technology Management Program at Ferris State University was recently awarded the first-ever full accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Collegiate Graphic Communications. The ACCGC was formed roughly nine years ago with the support of the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation to establish and monitor standards for all bachelor of science degree programs in the graphic communications area.

EDEN PRAIRIE—Challenge Printing has installed two six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster 52 presses. Each is equipped with a modular design, three-ton capacity single-zone ColorCommand temperature control/cooling system from TriService.
ST. PAUL—Impressions Inc. has purchased THE System, CRC Information Systems' business management solution. Impressions is a multi-color printer specializing in the complete production of customized printing and paperboard packaging products.
NEW JERSEY
CINNAMINSON—Tribune Color Corp. recently took delivery of a new Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 CD press with a 10-ton capacity, modular design, ColorCommand single zone temperature control/cooling system from TriService.
NEW YORK
JACKSON HEIGHTS—A new seven-color, 56˝ Mitsubishi press has been installed at Standard Folding Carton. TriService provided a modular design, 12-ton capacity single-zone Color-Command temperature control/cooling system.
LOWVILLE—Climax Manufacturing has installed a three-lamp UV curing system from Prime UV Systems to cure UV overprint varnish. It was installed after the coating unit on Climax's new BHS in-line flexographic press, Type F-IT-1000-7C.
NEW YORK CITY—Prepress houses Big Apple and Lazernet have merged operations. The companies now operate under one roof, located at 225 West 39th St. The new company will be know as Big Apple/Lazernet.
OHIO
TOLEDO—LBA Custom Printing is running a new six-color, 40˝ Komori Lithrone press, equipped with a ColorCommand five-ton capacity modular design single-zone temperature control/cooling system from TriService.
WESTERVILLE—Precision Printing of Columbus has installed a six-color, 40˝ Komori Lithrone sheetfed press. The press is outfitted with a five-ton capacity ColorCommand temperature control/cooling system from TriService.
OREGON
WILSONVILLE—RFD Publications has installed a TriService 200-ton capacity central chilling system to provide temperature control for the company's eight-color MAN Roland 700 series press, as well as to provide additional capacity for future press installations.
PENNSYLVANIA
BELLWOOD—BeaverPrints Inc. has announced it will donate 10 percent from the sale of its American Pride product line to the American Red Cross for the remainder of this year. The product line consists of calendars, business cards, and stationery featuring the American flag.
TEXAS
DALLAS—C&R Bindery has installed an MBO B-30 4/4/4/2 folder and a Theisen & Bonitz 315VP 15-pocket collator with SPS computer controls and selective collating, purchased through MBO America.
Williamson Printing had the most winning entries in the Printing Industries of America-sponsored Premier Print Awards. Williamson won 77 "Benny" statues, thus receiving the Sponsors Gold Award for overall achievement. The Dallas-based firm captured seven Best of Category awards.
KAUFMAN—Armstrong Packaging has added a second Mitsubishi press to its stable of sheetfed presses. The new addition is a seven-color Model 3FC and is specially outfitted for folding carton applications. It is equipped with a tower coater and a second-side printing unit.
WISCONSIN
HARTLAND—Commercial Communications recently held an information exposition for its customers and vendors at its headquarters here. Attendees toured the facility and had a first-hand view of how the company is anticipating the future of printing and documents.
KENOSHA—Mary Morgan Inc., a Gannett company, has installed an Autologic APS color film imagesetter at its facility here.
WAUSAU—Marathon Communications Group has changed its name to Marathon Press. The company says it wanted its name to more accurately reflect its core business—full printing services. Marathon is part of The Johnson Group.
