SYRACUSE, IN—The Image Group recently achieved its 100 millionth impression on one of its six-color Akiyama offset presses. The sheetfed press, shown here with Bob McKee (left) of Akiyama and James Plummer Sr., president and CEO of The Image Group, was installed in 1986.
NEW YORK

ARKANSAS
SPRINGDALE—The Morning News has purchased a TECSA 2470 copydot scanner from Graphic Enterprises Inc. (GEI).
CALIFORNIA
SAN Diego—Dam Bindery has installed a Minuteman saddle stitching line from Muller Martini. Dam Bindery serves the San Diego and Southern California area with trade bindery services.
VENTURA—Jano Graphics has purchased a Presto saddle stitching line from Muller Martini. Jano Graphics, serving Southern California since 1976, offers complete in-house electronic prepress, pressroom and bindery services. It specializes in color sheetfed and web printing of brochures, presentation folders, catalogs, data sheets, instruction manuals and packaging.
FLORIDA
DAYTONA BEACH—The News-Journal has purchased Graphic Enterprises Inc.'s (GEI) Ink Manager for ink presetting. Ink Manager automatically calculates ink density values and passes digital information over to the press.
LONGWOOD—Consolidated Label has launched an expansion project that will include construction of a 3,000-square-foot mezzanine and the addition of an eight-color, 10˝ flexographic press. The new mezzanine area will be used for storage and supplies.
ILLINOIS
CHICAGO—Black Box Collotype, based here, was named the Millennium Sappi North American Printer of the Year at a gala awards presentation held in South Africa on September 9. Michael Intrator of Black Box received the award for the book "En Passant: Black & White Photographs by Dennis Manarchy," which was printed on Sappi Fine Paper's Lustro Dull.
SCHAUMBURG—Pac-West Label and Graphics, of Torrance, CA, has joined the Impaxx Labels and Packaging Network, headquartered here. The purchase of the privately held company was completed on September 25. The company's current management will remain in place under the new ownership. Other terms of the sale were not disclosed.
VALMEYER—MAR Graphics has expanded its warehousing services with an additional building adjacent to its printing facility. The added space allows for greater capacity and increased efficiency in sorting and picking of products. Additionally, MAR has added warehouse management options to its Internet-based distributor link system, giving customers the ability to request releases and track inventory levels with any standard Web browser. MAR is a trade-only printer offering forms and document printing, as well as warehousing, to brokers nationwide.
KANSAS
FORT SCOTT—A Presto saddle stitching line with an Apollo stacker from Muller Martini has been installed at Sekan Printing. Sekan is a general commercial printer serving the Midwest with sheetfed printing.
MASSACHUSETTS
SPRINGFIELD—Vision Graphics has moved into a new 12,000-square-foot facility and added to its equipment line. New to the shop is a five-color, 20x29˝ Heidelberg Speedmaster 74-5 P+L press with coater and a complete Heidelberg Delta workflow. A new eight-up Primesetter will provide the new press—and the existing two-color Quickmaster presses—with punched film ready for plate.
MISSOURI
COLUMBIA—Tribune Publishing, publisher of the Columbia Daily Tribune, is expanding its press stable with the purchase of a 48-unit Goss Universal 45 press to print its daily paper and The New York Times. Installation is scheduled for the spring of 2001. Tribune Publishing also prints business and entertainment tabloids, trade publications, catalogs and advertising inserts.
NEBRASKA
OMAHA—Malnove Inc., a producer of folding cartons and packaging systems, has recorded 100 million impressions on its seven-color, 56˝ KBA Rapida 142 sheetfed offset press. The press, which was the first KBA large-format Rapida delivered in the U.S., became operational in March 1998. Employing 220 workers at its plant here, Malnove will add a second Rapida 142 in December.
NEW HAMPSHIRE
MANCHESTER—The Union Leader newspaper has purchased a TECSA 2570 copydot scanner from Graphic Enterprises Inc. (GEI).
NEW JERSEY
ENGLEWOOD—Westbury Press has purchased an EPSON Stylus Pro 9000 wide-format printer. The printer is expected to work on poster production, proofing and prototyping for Westbury's clients. Founded in 1908, the company offers offset printing, prepress services, distribution and fulfillment.
SOUTH HACKENSACK—Bind-Rite Services has installed a Prima saddle stitching line from Muller Martini. Bind-Rite is a trade bindery specializing in long-run perfect binding and saddle stitching.
NEW YORK
ROCHESTER—Rochester Institute of Technology's College of Imaging Arts and Sciences recently received a donation of an eight-color, 20˝ Mark Andy 4150 press, capable of using UV-cured, water-based or solvent-based inks. The system will be used for research on environmentally safe printing processes. Donated accessories include a corona treater, an automatic register control system and an electrostatic double-sided web cleaner. The donated equipment is valued at more than $600,000.
NORTH CAROLINA
HIGH POINT—A new Muller Martini Presto saddle stitching line is now in operation at Kreber Enterprises. Established in 1905, Kreber is a full-service commercial printer specializing in short- to medium-run color sheetfed work.
OHIO
CLEVELAND—The Cleveland Bookbinding Co. has installed a 10-pocket Sulby perfect binder and Stahl three-knife trimming system. The company services commercial printers with a variety of binding needs.
OREGON
PORTLAND—Sunset Printing has added its second Komori Lithrone L-228 sheetfed offset press.
Image Graphics has installed an automated two-color, 28˝ Komori Sprint perfecting press.
PENNSYLVANIA
PITTSBURGH—The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) has granted $303,000 in scholarships to a total of 265 students pursuing careers in the graphic communications and/or printing management fields. Of the 265 undergraduate students receiving scholarships for the 2000-2001 academic year, 85 were first-time recipients, while the remaining 180 were previous recipients.
READING—Standard Offset Printing has installed a Minuteman saddle stitching line from Muller Martini. Standard Offset is a commercial printer offering color sheetfed capabilities. The new line is expected to increase capabilities in its full-service bindery.
TENNESSEE
KNOXVILLE—The Knoxville News-Sentinel has placed an order for two new Regioman presses from MAN Roland. The new presses will be installed at the paper's new headquarters, to be built on 28 acres in downtown Knoxville. The new 165,000-square-foot facility will include 100,000 square feet for the pressroom, paper and pre-print storage, and packaging center operations. The presses are scheduled to arrive mid-year 2002, with all the equipment to be up and running by the first quarter of 2003.
TEXAS
DALLAS—The board of directors of the Printing and Imaging Association of Texas and the Graphic Communications Industries Association of Oklahoma have agreed to consolidate the memberships of both organizations. The addition of two chapter cities in Oklahoma will fit the regional concept utilized by PIA-Texas. The Texas association has nearly 1,000 members in 10 Texas regions. As an affiliate of PIA and GATF, members in Texas and Oklahoma will be able to utilize all the services of these two national organizations.
FORT WORTH—Branch-Smith Inc. has been selected by the Institute for Family Business at Baylor University as one of the most outstanding family firms in Texas. Branch-Smith, a 90-year-old business, received the Institute's 2000 Family Business of the Year award for medium-sized companies.

STAUNTON—The Daily News Leader has purchased a TESCA 2470 copydot scanner from Graphic Enterprises Inc. (GEI).
WASHINGTON
SEATTLE—Emerald City/Health Printers has installed a fully automated Komori Lithrone L-640 press equipped with tower coater and PDC-S closed loop color control.
GAC Allied Printers has added a Komori Lithrone L-640 press with coater.
