Presses Head for Hawkeye State
HIAWATHA, IA—Two 41˝ KBA Rapida 105 sheetfed presses with coaters have been installed at Cedar Graphics. The first press is a six-color Rapida 105 sheetfed press; the second is a 10-color, five-over-five Rapida 105 long perfector with a roll-to-sheet feeder.
GLENDALE—Color Depot has installed a Kluge EHF series press. The print trade shop included the preload continuous magazine option that allows the machine to be reloaded while in motion (for continuous feeding). The EHF press will be used primarily for foil stamping and embossing small boxes and CD sleeves.
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO—A new six-color Komori Lithrone 28 with coater is now running at Essence Printing. It is the company’s second Komori press.
SMYRNA—Printegra has upgraded its black-and-white capabilities by adding a six-color HP Indigo 5000 to its facility here and Kodak E125 Digimaster presses in Smyrna and Montgomeryville, PA.
TUCKER—Scott Lithographing has acquired its first 40˝ multicolor press—an automated, five-color Komori Lithrone 540 with aqueous in-line coater. It’s the fourth Komori press installed by the 40-year-old printer.
CAROL STREAM—A new Xerox iGen3 digital production press with variable imaging and UV coating capabilities is now in operation at Team Concept Printing & Thermography.
NEWPORT—Steinhauser Inc., a 100-year-old printing and converting company, has purchased a Premius Digital 3 Chip print process management system from BST Pro Mark.
CENTREVILLE—Tidewater Direct has invested more than $3 million in equipment. An eight-unit Sanden Quantum 1200 perfecting web press will be installed at the company’s West Branch, IA, facility. Also, two Fuji Sabre VX9600 CTP systems and four 26˝ Stahl folders have been purchased.
WILMINGTON—Kirkwood Printing has added an eight-color Speed-master XL 105 press with in-line aqueous coater from Heidelberg The XL 105 complements the shop’s three existing 40˝ Heidelberg presses. Kirkwood is a commercial printer housing 92 employees.

SAINT LOUIS—One-to-one marketing firm KPEX has added an HP Indigo 5000 digital press.
HASTINGS—Gibraltar Packaging Group, a manufacturer and marketer of packaging products, has purchased a seven-color, 56˝ KBA Rapida 142. The new sheetfed press has been in production since early February.
HAMBURG—A five-color Komori Lithrone 28 press with coater is the newest addition at Gateway Printing & Graphics.
ROCHESTER—GretagMacbeth has installed a vipPAQ in-line densitometric color measuring system on a Mark Andy LP3000 flexo press at the Rochester Institute of Technology for use in its Printing Applications Laboratory.
BURLINGTON—Meredith-Webb is adding a new 63˝ Roland 900 XXL to its fleet of four existing MAN Roland presses. Scheduled to begin producing this spring, the extra-extra-large machine is a six-color model with in-line coating.
CARROLL—Add Inc. Printing of Ohio has changed its name to ADvantage Press. ADvantage Press prints the weekly ADvertiser publications in addition to offering commercial printing in the central Ohio region. Both ADvantage Press and the ADvertiser publication group are owned by Journal Community Publishing Group, headquartered in New Berlin, WI.
CLEVELAND—Hotcards.com, a full-service, full-color printing and graphic design house, recently purchased and installed a new five-color Sakurai 575SD with coater and a new 45˝ Saber paper cutter.
OKLAHOMA CITY—Southwestern Stationery & Bank Supply is now operating a 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000R convertible perfector with an aqueous tower coater. The four-color press is configured for two-over-two printing.
PITTSBURGH—Tri-Ad Litho, a full-service commercial printer, has opted for a Xerox iGen3 110 digital production press to expand its short-run color and personalized printing capabilities and to complement its existing offset printing services.
SOUTHAMPTON—Digital Color Graphics has installed a Kodak 2100 NexPress digital press. The company also added a bookletmaker, GBC binding, a shrink-wrapping machine and a complete mailing/fulfillment center.

KIMBALL—The Rock-Tenn Co. facility here has surpassed 300 million impressions on a 51˝ Mitsubishi sheetfed press used to produce folding cartons. The company was presented with a special “300 Million Impressions Club” engraved statuette to commemorate the production milestone.
MEMPHIS—BABER Inc. added a Prosetter 74 platesetting device from Heidelberg to upgrade from film processing to computer-to-plate production.
MILTON—Freedom Graphic Systems has implemented THE System business management software from CRC Information Systems.
SUN PRAIRIE—DeGolier Printing has installed a new Creo Magnus 400 platesetter featuring on-press plate developing and an Epson Stylus Pro 7800 proofer.
