HUNTSVILLE—A new two-color, 28˝ Komori Lithrone press has been installed at All American Printing.
TUSCALOOSA—The University of Alabama has added a new four-color, 21 1⁄16 x 19 1⁄8˝ Sakurai 474EPII press.
CALIFORNIA
IRVINE—The Dot Printer recently installed a Fujifilm Javelin Luxel T-9000 CTP thermal platesetter. The company is a five-facility, $36 million commercial printing operation.
LOS ANGELES—Lithographix has installed its second Rollem TR die-scoring system and a Durselen/Rollem PB01 drilling system.
NAPA—Label printer Jonergin Pacific has purchased CRC Information Systems' "The System" business management software. The company specializes in the production of high-quality wine labels.
SAN DIEGO—Speedy Bindery has purchased a Best Osako 268 AutoSet automated saddle stitcher from Best Graphics.
COLORADO
DENVER—Skyline Business Forms & Commercial Printing recently installed a nine-pocket Stahl stitcher with in-line trimming and folding.
CONNECTICUT
PUTNAM—Chase Graphics has installed two new 28˝ Sprint perfector presses from Komori America.
GEORGIA
NORCROSS—Brandon's Printing has purchased Performance Printing for an undisclosed amount. According to Darlene Byars, vice president of Brandon's Printing, this purchase should increase the company's revenues by about 10 percent.
ILLINOIS
CHICAGO—A six-color Heidelberg press with an in-line coating unit is now running at Wicklander Printing. It is equipped to print using either conventional or CoCure UV inks and coatings.
CRYSTAL LAKE—A new four-color Komori Lithrone 28 press has been installed at McGrath Press.
VERNON HILLS—Aim Business Printers has purchased a new five-color Komori Lithrone 28 press.
IOWA
DES MOINES—Full-service trade bindery Finishbinders Inc. has increased its capabilities with a Scott index tabbing machine.
MARYLAND
ROCKVILLE—In April, EU Services welcomed a group of 30 children of its employees in support of Bring Your Child to Work Day. The children spent the day learning about the company and their parents' jobs.
THURMONT—Gateway Printing has purchased and installed a new Baum 2020 floor model paper folder through G.E. Richards.
MASSACHUSETTS
BURLINGTON—Digital Graphics Inc. (DGI) and Invisuals, a division of Charrette Inc., have merged. The new company, known as DGI-Invisuals, is owned equally by Charrette Inc. and Digitech International. Operations have been consolidated into a refurbished, 30,000-square-foot facility, based here.
CLINTON—Dunn & Co. has installed a four-color, 28˝ Sakurai 472EDII fully automated press.
NORTH CHELMSFORD—Courier Corp., based here, now has Kodak Approval digital proofing systems in place at its Stoughton and Kendallville manufacturing facilities.
MICHIGAN
HOLLAND—A seven-unit, 40˝ Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 press is a new addition to the pressroom at The SVH Group.
MINNESOTA
EDEN PRAIRIE—Challenge Printing has purchased a Bobst SP104-ER diecutter and a Bobst Media 100-II Version A-2 folder/gluer.
MINNEAPOLIS—Merit Printing, a 30-year-old commercial printer, has added the capabilities of a fully integrated SPEKTA CTP system.
MISSOURI
JEFFERSON CITY—Von Hoffmann Press has installed a Muller Martini CB-16 compensating counter/stacker at its production facility here.
SAINT LOUIS—Die Cutting Diversified is the first U.S. customer to purchase the new Bobst SP Evoline 102-E Autoplaten diecutter. Along with the SP Evoline, the company has also added a new Bobst Media 100-II A2 folder/gluer. Die Cutting Diversified does trade finishing and POP displays.
NEW JERSEY
FAIRFIELD—A new Fujifilm FINALPROOF digital proofer has been added at Northeast Impressions. The 30-employee shop caters to the financial, pharmaceutical, agency and entertainment markets.
NEW YORK
BROOKLYN—The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, a legal organization in use by Jehovah's Witnesses producing Bibles and Bible literature, has added a Muller Martini Bravo-S perfect binding system.
NEW YORK CITY—Darby Printing & Litho, a 75-year-old printing company based here, has announced the formation of Re:Solution Printing. The new company, based in Somerset County, NJ, supports a growing group of customers based in New Jersey.
WHITESTONE—Chinese-language newspaper The World Journal has installed a Muller Martini Valore saddle stitcher to finish a new tabloid-sized magazine the company has begun publishing.
NORTH CAROLINA
CHARLOTTE—Cadmus Communications has completed the installation of a new Rollem TR die-scoring system at its facility here.
WINSTON-SALEM—Hutchison Allgood Printing has purchased a Sanwa 1060SE diecutter.
OHIO
CINCINNATI—Bramkamp Printing has installed a complete Agfa CTP system, including Apogee workflow, Sherpa proofing and a Palladio platesetter. Bramkamp also reports it has a new Heidelberg/Polar paper cutter up and running.
Label specialist Multi-Color Corp. has purchased promotional packaging provider Quick Pak. Multi-Color will retain all 300 Quick Pak employees. Both companies are based in Cincinnati.
PENNSYLVANIA
PHILADELPHIA—The Graphic Arts Association's Neographics 2002 award winners have been announced. Alcom Printing Group, Harleysville, PA, took the Power of Print Award for its "VLS Corporate Brochure." First runner-up was Tierney Communications of Philadelphia for its "Philadelphia Eagles SBL Mailing." Second runner-up went to Wenzel & Co. of Pennington, NJ, for "The Jersey Fresh Cookbook." Lehigh Press of Pennsauken, NJ, came in as third runner-up for the "Holt Literature and Language Arts Book Cover." Elizabethtown, PA-based ITP of USA rounded out the top five with its "Kingsley Bate 2001 Catalog" entry.
SEWICKLEY—Installation of a donated four-unit MAN Roland Rotoman web offset press in the research and training facility of the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation has begun.
YORK—The Maple-Vail Book Manufacturing Group is up and running with a new Ventura book sewing machine from Muller Martini. Maple-Vail manufactures casebound and paperback books with either Smyth-sewn or adhesive binding.
RHODE ISLAND
LINCOLN—New England Printing & Graphics has purchased Parker-Luther Co. of Pawtucket, RI. The union of the two commercial printers bring together more than 200 years of printing tradition.
TEXAS
AUSTIN—American Printing & Mailing has installed a new Muller Martini Presto saddle stitching system to increase its finishing capacity.
DALLAS—Independent Machinery has installed a Sanwa 1060SE diecutter at Premier Carton.
UTAH
OREM—Full-service commercial printer Rocky Mountain Printing has announced two changes. First, it is opening a new division in St. George. The 7,000-square-foot facility will be run by Gary Bengtzen, company president. Also, Rocky Mountain is installing a six-color, 40˝ Heidelberg perfecting press.
VIRGINIA
PETERSBURG—Owen Printing/Dietz Press has increased its book
finishing capacity with a new Valore saddle stitching system from Muller Martini and, according to Dave Meloy, production manager, the company is attracting new business with the machine's advanced capabilities. The commercial printer had been using a Harris Multibinder, but moved up to Valore when the new Muller Martini system was introduced last summer.
RICHMOND—Colormark has purchased a new Muller Martini Bravo-T saddle stitching system. Colormark is a division of The Supply Room Cos.
ROANOKE—R.R. Donnelley's commitment to creating a safe working environment has been recognized by the Virginia Occupational Safety and Health program (VOSH) through its certification of the company's manufacturing plant here as a Virginia Voluntary Protection Program (VVPP) STAR site. The facility reportedly is the 16th site in Virginia to receive the award and the only printing facility in the region to do so.
WASHINGTON
BELLINGHAM—A six-color Komori Lithrone 28 has been installed at Lithex Northwest.
SPOKANE—Ross Printing has announced the installation of a five-color Komori Lithrone 40 with coater.
VANCOUVER—Tetra Pak has installed a seven-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Model 3FC sheetfed press with a backprinting unit and a full inter-station UV curing system. The new press has replaced an older four-color machine. With its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, and more than 20,000 employees worldwide, Tetra Pak is one of the largest suppliers of packaging for milk, fruit juices and drinks. The Vancouver plant has a staff of 155 and ships more than one billion packages a year.
WISCONSIN
MENOMENEE FALLS—Catalog specialist Arandell Corp. has installed its fifth new Heidelberg Pacesetter 1000 saddle stitcher this year. That brings the number of Pacesetters at this facility to 21. Arandell also operates eight Heidelberg web presses.
MILWAUKEE—HM Graphics has purchased a new six-color, 40˝ Heidelberg Speedmaster CD with in-line aqueous coating unit as part of the company's $3 million expansion project for 2002. The press has been equipped with a spectrophotometer. The company reports it has spent $7 million in the past 12 months on new technology, equipment and upgrades.
RIPON—To enhance its four-color options, Ripon Community Printers has added a reconditioned four-high unit to its Goss Community pressline. Also, after 11 years of service, the company's first Hantscho Mark 16 press is undergoing a unit-by-unit rebuild.
