Akers is using the new equipment for diecutting and foil stamping booster cards, a small card printed on 24-pt. adhesive coated stock. Additionally, the press will be used for similar applications on auto-lock bottom boxes.

ENGLEWOOD—PrintXcel, a Quality Park Brand, recently installed RDM Image Qualifiers in all facilities producing business forms and checks. The RDM Image Qualifiers will allow all PrintXcel plants to design and test check documents for image compliance, ensuring that the documents will meet the requirements of Check 21 legislation that goes into effect in October.

JENNINGS—Goss International has taken an order from The Jennings Daily News for a new Goss Community press. The order has been placed following the installation in 2001 of a new Community press at its sister newspaper, The Ruston Daily Leader, and will replace its existing Harris V-15 press.

Baltimore—Victor Graphics, a book manufacturer, announced a comprehensive quality control program that will encompass nearly every facet of the company's business. Titled "Project Heads Up," the program is designed to improve the overall customer experience. The company has also purchased a Recmi stacker/ bundler from IMC America for its new Timsons web press.
LANHAM—OmniPrint Newsletter and Direct Mail Services is now operating a new Heidelberg Speedbander 603 automatic bander with Stahlfolder TD 78-4 Topline buckle folder. OmniPrint specializes in newsletters and direct mail projects for a wide range of customers in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. It was the first installation of the Speedbander 603 in the United States.

SAINT PAUL—Modernistic reports is was the first printer in the U.S. to purchase the JetScreen direct-to-screen system, in turn reducing the number of steps for screen printing from nine to three.
Winona—W&C Printing has added a second Duplo collating/bookletmaking system. The Duplo System 5000 consists of two DC-10/60 collators, a DBM-500/T bookletmaker and a trimmer.

CARLSTADT—Pictorial Offset has entered into negotiations to acquire Integrated Imaging Center's (IIC) human and capital resources. A high-end color retoucher, ICC closed its doors in July.
TRENTON—The senior management of Direct Group, together with funds advised by private equity firm Schroder Ventures, has acquired Coupon Service Corp. of Jersey City, NJ. Both companies serve the direct mail industry. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

NEW YORK CITY—An eight-color, 41˝ KBA Rapida 105 sheetfed perfector with coater is now in operation at 1-800-Postcards. The firm, which is spending $8 million to upgrade its equipment, installed the KBA press with perfector in May, with an order to install a KBA 74 Karat digital offset press later this year.

CLEVELAND—Great Lakes Integrated (formerly Great Lakes Lithograph) boasts that it is the first and only printer in the state certified in MetalFX technology, which expands the traditional metallic color printing palette.

DAYTON—Longtime employee Dennis (Denny) Livesay has purchased the assets of Progressive Printers, bringing local ownership back to the company originally established in 1946.

SHARON—A K2 UV coater and 60˝ SEAL Image 6500 laminator have been installed at Victor Printing.

CRANSTON—Colonial Printing has purchased a six-color Lithrone 40 with in-line coater. This is the first 40˝ press for Colonial, which also runs a six-color and a four-color Komori Lithrone 28.

COLUMBIA—Commercial printer Colonial Printing is now operating a two-color Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46 and a Prosetter 74.
GREENVILLE—Colour Allure has installed several Heidelberg systems including a small-format Printmaster QM 46 press, Quicksetter 300E platesetter, a Polar cutter and Heidelberg's quick folding system. This 15-year-old family business recently expanded its facility to accommodate the new equipment and better serve its clients.
