MERIDEN—Sappi Fine Paper has named Miller Johnson Inc. a "Silver Award" winner in the general category for its printing of a 2004 Mercedes Benz dealer calendar. The 66-year-old printing firm has annual sales of $9.5 million.
NEWINGTON—Direct mail provider Data Graphics has added its fifth Miyakoshi variable-size offset press to this location. The MVF22K is a six-color model and is configured to run all cassettes and OEM equipment now in use at Data Graphics.

SARASOTA—The Sarasota Herald-Tribune has placed an order for two Goss Global Newsliner tower additions for its existing Metroliner presses. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune serves one of the largest and most affluent areas of Florida and has a daily circulation of 106,865 and a Sunday circulation of 134,219.

BROADVIEW—Rapid Impressions commenced its 35th year in business by purchasing a MAN Roland 709 PLV in January. The press will print nine colors plus aqueous coating in a single pass, as well as perfect sheets 4/5. It is fully automated including auto plate loading, auto wash devices and closed-loop color control. It will be linked to prepress and Logic MIS through MAN Roland's PECOM system.
LOMBARD—A five-color Komori Lithrone 28 has been installed at The Mallard Press.

NEW ORLEANS—Fox Print Direct, a commercial printer with both web and sheetfed capabilities, has installed a new Muller Martini Bravo-T saddle stitching system to better serve its newspaper and education clients. An eight-pocket model with an integrated cover folder/feeder, the new stitcher takes the place of two older machines—an eight-pocket and a four-pocket system—while increasing Fox's stitching capacity.

CHARLESTOWN—Atlantic Digital Imaging has installed a four-color Komori Lithrone 20.
WORCESTER—LaVigne Inc., an independent commercial printing company, was recently honored for its long-term membership in the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). SHARP exempts companies from OSHA-programmed inspections. LaVigne became a SHARP member in 1988, reportedly one of only 700 companies nationwide.

LINCOLN—Midlands Packaging has been presented with a hand-made press replica of its six-color, 41˝ KBA Rapida 105 sheetfed press with in-line hybrid UV coating by the press manufacturer. The press was installed in January with production beginning in mid-February.

IRVINGTON—Stuyvesant Press has acquired a Heidelberg Prosetter CTP system and an HP 5500 wide-format printer for proofing, signage and poster output.
PENNSAUKEN—Lehigh Lithographers has expanded its stamping and embossing capability by purchasing its sixth stamping press, a 50˝ Bobst Foilmaster SP-126. It now runs four Bobst Foilmasters and two Gietz stampers.

ST. JAMES—Minuteman Press and Effects of Color have joined together to enter the digital printing arena with a Heidelberg Quickmaster DI press.
Wappinger Falls—Wappinger Falls Shoppers has purchased a DGM four-high press as an add-on to an existing pressline. Installation was completed in January of 2004. Wappinger Falls Shoppers is a commercial and newspaper printer, publishing two weekly newspapers, The Southern Duchess News and the Beacon Free Press. In addition, they also publish The Hudson Valley Business Journal, a bi-weekly business publication.

MANHEIM—Phillips Graphic Finishing is now operating a new Kolbus KM470 perfect binder with 24 pockets and in-line three-knife cutter. Phillips installed the machine in its second plant, which takes the company to 42,000 square feet.
PHILADELPHIA—A-C Reproduction has acquired five new Lanier 5813 color copiers and one Lanier LD090 high-volume copier. Two of the color copiers and one of the high-volume units are connected to an EFI MicroPress.
WILLIAMSPORT—Webb Communications, a full-service commercial and publication printer, has added a Muller Martini Bravo-T saddle stitching system to its finishing and fulfillment operations. Webb specializes in tabloid format, mailed publications.

YORK—Ambassador Packaging has installed a new six-color, 56˝ KBA Rapida 142 sheetfed press. Ambassador Packaging caters to the folding carton industry.

Nashville—Lithographics Inc. has signed an agreement to implement THE System business management software from CRC Information Systems.

DALLAS—TS Printing has moved from its former 12,000-square-foot home in suburban Irving to a new 19,300-square-foot plant in Dallas. The facility is located five minutes from downtown. The 20-employee company, with sales approaching $4 million in 2003, also expanded its printing capabilities with the installation of a new four-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 300R perfector with in-line coater.
HOUSTON—Absolute Color is now running a new five-color Komori Lithrone 40.
KILLEEN—The Killeen Daily Herald has purchased 16 units of the DGM 850 press, as well as a DGM 1030 folder and a DGM 1050 folder. Installation of the new press will commence in June. The pressline will replace the Goss Urbanite that is currently in operation. The Killeen Daily Herald has a daily circulation of 19,000 and a Sunday circulation of 26,000.

BRIDGEWATER—Good Printers has automated its saddle stitching operation with a new BravoPlus from Muller Martini. The machine is equipped with AMRYS, Muller Martini's automatic makeready system. The BravoPlus replaces a Muller Martini Fox that handled stitching duties for the past 15 years.
LORTON—Brian Hills has purchased sole ownership of Nationwide Laminating, a full-service laminating and finishing company. Hills established the company with a partner in 1991 and has been a co-owner since then.
RICHMOND—Cadmus Communications announced that Elsevier, a publisher of scientific, technical and medical information, has signed a multi-year agreement to use RapidRights from Cadmus ArticleWorks for its digital rights management system to deliver electronic article reprints.

RENTON—Körber PaperLink North America reports that Trojan Litho has installed a new SHM 1450 Dual Rotary sheeter for its paperboard packaging and commercial fine papers operations.

MADISON, WI—Feeling it was time to upgrade to newer technology and faster running speeds, American Printing has installed a new six-color, 28˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 1000LS press with aqueous tower coater.
NEENAH—Outlook Group has launched a new online postcard printing service called Direct 2U. It utilizes the Internet to provide a simple and inexpensive way for postcard printing.
WAUKESHA—Commercial printer J.B. Kenehan Inc. has installed a new Videojet mail system into its 20,000-square-foot bindery addition. New flat cutting and drilling equipment have also been added.
