Paper Signs Deal for New Press
PEORIA, IL—The Peoria Journal Star, a Copley Press property, has signed with MAN Roland for a new Geoman press to replace its current Goss letterpress system. The 42-couple, eight-web machine, earmarked to more than double the paper's color capacity, will reside in a new 66,000-square-foot extension that's being added to the company's facility here.

ANAHEIM—KNI Inc., a book manufacturer, has acquired Complete Reproduction Service, a Santa Ana, CA-based book manufacturer. The two companies will operate from the KNI facility here. Additional equipment that will be added include a three-knife trimmer, Wire-O and spiral binding machines, and extensive upgrades in the electronic prepress department. Both companies were established in 1972 and now employ 85 people.
SOUTH EL MONTE—Alpha Printing has installed a five-color Komori Lithrone 28 press with coater.
STOCKTON—K/P Corp. has added high-speed Halm Jet envelope presses to both its facility here and in Seattle.

NAPERVILLE—Solar Communications, a provider of printing, packaging, mailing and fulfillment services, announced the expansion of its flexographic facility. The expansion into a 120,000-square-foot plant conveniently places it next door to the company's web offset and mailing operations.
WHEELING—Segerdahl Graphics has added a state-of-the-art kitchen to its digital photo studio. Built to support Segerdahl's growing food-based client business, the 240 square feet of workable kitchen space provides onsite cooking capabilities to help speed the photography process.

KANSAS CITY—Northcutt Printing has purchased a G&K V-14 miniature and commercial folder. The new folder features a six-by-six configuration and a SAF feeder, as well as shingle and vertical stacking delivery systems.
MARYLAND HEIGHTS—Jerome Group, a full-service provider of direct mail and direct marketing materials, has successfully implemented the Printcafe PSI print management system. Jerome Group uses the Printcafe PSI system not just to manage its traditional commercial printing business, but company-wide for all direct mail and direct marketing services. In addition, the company recently purchased the PrintFlow dynamic scheduling and PrinterSite Internal modules.

NEW YORK CITY—The Association of Graphic Communications (AGC) will honor three leaders of the graphic communications world with the Power of Communications Award. Francis Costello, president of R.R. Donnelley's publishing division, Angelo Rivello, senior vice president at Newsweek, and Robert Stabler, president of Agfa Graphic Systems, will be honored by the AGC at the 51st annual Franklin Event.
YAPHANK—A two-color Komori Sprint 28 perfector is up-and-running at Searles Graphics.

CANAL WINCHESTER—A five-color Komori Lithrone 28 sheetfed press has been installed at Hicks Printing.
CLEVELAND—Jim Dietz, president of Lake Erie Graphics, announced that his company has installed an eight-color Encad NovaJet 850 wide-format printer. Lake Erie Graphics is a 13-year-old, multicolor sheetfed offset printer.
SEBRING—MPI Label Systems will implement DiMS!' Web-based enterprise management software in its seven plants across the U.S. MPI produces pressure-sensitive, flexographic labels and labeling systems. Starting with the company's Ohio headquarters, MPI will implement DiMS!' entire end-to-end solution, which covers CRM and estimating through shipping and invoicing. Upon completion, the implementation will be rolled out to MPI's six satellite plants across the country.

ASHLAND—Tri-State Envelope has installed a five-color Komori Lithrone 40 with coater.
MOUNT JOY—Engle Printing & Publishing, a commercial and publication printer specializing in coldset web offset work, has installed a new Bravo-S saddle stitching system from Muller Martini. In addition to its commercial work, Engle publishes 22 community newspapers that are circulated weekly to more than 430,000 households in central Pennsylvania. The company also produces a number of specialty publications for readers in the eastern United States.

DILLON—Herald Multiforms announced that it has installed an eight-unit Goss Community news-paper press to expand its product line and added an FTP site for easy file transfer. Herald's new equipment is being used to print small-to-medium runs of community newspapers, newspaper inserts, tabloids, broadsheets, advertisements and newsletters.

DALLAS—Robert Yaquinto Printing reports it is now running a Bobst 104E diecutter, Bobst 102BMA foil stamper and Bobst Media II folder/gluer. Much of the company's core work is specialty related, and these machines will be used on projects on a regular basis. Yaquinto Printing has been in business for 40 years. The company says it installed the new equipment to serve customer requests.
Trafton Printing, also of Dallas, has implemented Printcafe's Hagen OA print management system.
