Printer Sees Repair Savings
BLOOMINGTON, IL—Bloomington Offset Process Inc. (BOPI) was the first printer in the nation to use MAN Roland's E-Eyes remote diagnostic tool to eliminate the need for a service call. Thomas Mercier, CEO and president of the company says E-Eyes saved BOPI thousands in expenses and repair costs.

IRVINE—A six-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Model 3F-16 sheetfed press with tower coater and extended delivery has been installed at Mybar Printing, replacing two six-year-old 40˝ presses at the $12 million, full-service commercial printer. Also on order is a four-color Mitsubishi Diamond 3000R perfector with coater.
OXNARD—A high-speed Spartanics batching system has been purchased by Custom Printing. The new addition is expected to save the company about 25 manhours per week, notes Charles Utts, director of sales.
PALM SPRINGS—Ace Printing has installed a new five-color Komori Lithrone 28 with coater.

HAGERSTOWN—HBP Inc., which is celebrating its 100th year in business, has added an MBO B32-S/644 CF Perfection series buckle folder to its bindery. Among the features are computerized gatefold plate and the ASP-66ME mobile stream delivery unit.

GRAND RAPIDS—Graphic Embossed Images recently installed a Kluge UniFold folding and gluing system. GEI plans to use the system for the production of pocket folders.
HOLLAND—In a second expansion of press capabilities in a year, The SVH Group has added another seven-unit Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 CP2000. The new 40˝ press complements the 30 Heidelberg units already in operation.

NORTH KANSAS CITY—Watkins Lithographic has implemented the Printcafe PSI print management system and is already reaping the benefits of quicker estimating and job turnaround as a result. Founded in 1978, Watkins Lithographic has annual revenues in excess of $7 million and provides web and sheetfed printing.

PISCATAWAY—Folding carton company Arko Paper Products has installed a Heiber & Schröder WP1100 window patching machine that was purchased from Independent Machinery.

HICKORY—Catawba Valley Community College has launched its new Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology (GAIT) associate degree program with donations of more than $20,000 worth of equipment from North Carolina printers and industry support companies. Deluxe Printing donated a 32˝ commercial paper cutter manufactured by Michael Miracle. Hickory Graphics donated a one-color Multigraphics offset press. Also, Scans Etc. donated a graphic arts camera, color registration equipment used in the prepress process and a film processor.
LINCOLNTON—B.J. Printing is now doing business as North State Media Management. The company reports its new name, logo, mission statement and visual identity better reflects its business strategy and expanded product and service offerings.

CLEVELAND—Watt Printers has implemented Printcafe's PSI print management system to create an integrated information system throughout its operation. The printer operates a fully digital, direct-to-plate prepress operation.
WOOSTER—The Wooster Daily Record, a subsidiary of Dix Communications, is producing saddle stitched publications with a new Muller Martini Bravo-S stitcher.

DALLAS—The Finishing & Mailing Center has added a Muller Martini BravoPlus saddle stitcher, a Scitex 5120 ink-jet machine, an hhs hot-melt folder/gluing system and a seven-pocket Muller Martini 227 newspaper inserting machine to its equipment list.

SEATTLE—Emerald City Bindery recently expanded its full-service trade bindery offerings with the installation of a new Standard Horizon Speed Vac-100 three-tower collating system purchased from LDR International.

FALL CREEK—Mail Source has added finishing to its list of services with the recent installation of a Tempo saddle stitching system from Muller Martini. Before its Tempo arrived, Mail Source had concentrated on high-volume envelope chop-inserting and off-line imaging. Since the installation, the company added a trade bindery in Portage, WI, to further expand the postpress offerings it provides to its customers.
FREDERIC—Inter-County Cooperative Publishing Association has purchased a four-color Hamada B452A press from distributor Best Graphics. Also, a four-color Quad from Web Press was added to its Heidelberg web line.
