New Press Heats Up Southwestern Printer
PHOENIX—Cereus Graphics has installed a new Komori Lithrone S40 sheetfed offset press. Cereus reportedly is the second printing company in the nation to begin operating the newly designed, 40˝ press after its Graph Expo introduction last fall.

ADAMSVILLE—Precision Graphics has installed a five-color Komori Lithrone 40.

PHOENIX—A two-color, 17x22˝ Sakurai 258EPII perfector has been installed by the Arizona Department of Transportation.

LITTLE ROCK—Magna IV has purchased two Model 3F sheetfed presses from Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses. The new 40˝ presses—a six-color with coater and extended delivery and a two-color—joined an existing six-color Model 3F.

BURBANK—California Coast Color has added a six-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Model 3F-13 sheetfed press with tower coater and extended delivery to its equipment list. The 14-year-old company has 15 employees and 11,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
NORTH HOLLYWOOD—Ad Industries announced it has acquired Cal-West United (also known as Rundel Products, Western Looseleaf and California Calendar), a manufacturer of vacuum formed packaging, looseleaf and specialty products.
NORTHRIDGE—Commercial printer Dot Graphics has installed a Creo Trendsetter CTP system. The company also reports it has plans to expand into a 35,000-square-foot facility later this year.

BOULDER—Twelve new Tensor printing units were installed last year at Intermountain Color. The company has placed another order for an additional Tensor four-high tower.
DENVER—National Printing & Packaging has added a six-color, 28˝ Mitsubishi Model 1F-15 press. It replaced a five-color, 26˝ press.

CHICAGO—Greeting card manufacturer Recycled Paper Greetings has added a 14x22˝ Kluge EHD foil stamping, embossing and diecutting press.
CRESTHILL—A four-color Komori Lithrone 26 has been installed at Graphic Promotions.
WHEELING—Segerdahl Graphics has purchased a new two-color Ryobi 582H sheetfed press.

INDIANAPOLIS—Ross-Gage Inc. has purchased its second Durrer Rega step and European thumb cut indexing machine.
LAFAYETTE—Haywood Printing, in operation since 1826, has announced several equipment upgrades for its bindery, including a Wohlenberg 115PS Cut-Tec paper cutter, a Muller Martini Minuteman 1509 saddle stitcher, and a Rollem Auto-4 CPS for numbering, perfing, scoring and slitting.
TIPTON—McCormack Printing Impressions, a full-service commercial printer, has installed a Duplo System 4000 collating and bookletmaking system.

LOUISVILLE—Midland Communications Packaging has entered into an exclusive agreement with Chapman Group to represent the Peterson Case loose leaf binder line in Kentucky and other parts of the Midwest.

MONTCLAIR—A two-color Komori Spirit 26 perfector has been installed at The Printers Place.
PENNSAUKEN—A new Tigra perfect binding system from Muller Martini has been added to McCormick's Bindery. The binder can produce up to 3,600 soft cover books per hour.

OCEANSIDE—The Printcafe Logic SQL print management system has been implemented by Printcraft Graphics.
PALMYRA—The Paul T. Freund Co., a specialty printer of candy boxes and department store boxes, has added another Kluge EHD.
SYRACUSE—Dellas Graphics, a commercial printer and mailer, recently installed Printcafe's PSI print management system.

COLUMBUS—Old Trail Printing has expanded its bindery capacity with a new Bravo T/S saddle stitching system from Muller Martini. Old Trail Printing took its name from its original location on The National Old Trail—Route 40 in Columbus. It is a full-service commercial printer, employing a work force of more than 100.
DUBLIN—Vincent Graphics has installed a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 press with an in-line coating tower. The second-generation commercial printing, direct mail, fulfillment and e-commerce company was founded in 1968.

COLUMBIA—Crowson Stone Printing reports a 50 percent reduction in paper waste during makeready and a one-third decrease in makeready time through its use of Heidelberg's Prinect workflow solutions. The shop is using Heidelberg's Prinect PrepressInterface and ImageControl systems to support its new 10-color, 40˝ Speedmaster perfecting press. With these systems in place, Crowson Stone was able to reduce the stock required for 10-unit, two-sided perfecting makeready to an average of less than 300 sheets.
EASLEY—An automated Osako 368AS saddle stitcher was purchased by Martin Printing from North American distributor Best Graphics.
GREENWOOD—The Index-Journal has purchased a new Goss Community press for increased color capacity in its daily newspaper of the same name. The press reportedly was chosen for its reputation for shorter-run newspapers and the simplicity of its operation. The single-width Goss Community for The Index-Journal will be installed in March and has two four-high towers, one two-high unit and four mono units. It is also equipped with hydraulic paper roll lifts, motorized register for four-highs, remote compensation for the four-high units, 50˝ roll stands and a quarter folder.

HOUSTON—Earth Color has implemented the Printcafe PSI print management system.
MCALLEN—Freedom Communications recently placed an order for a Goss Universal 45 for its newspaper The Monitor. The press will be used to print the daily editions of The Monitor.

NORFOLK—AmeriComm has acquired Fastlist.com, a division of High Tech Data Services. The acquisition will reportedly allow AmeriComm, a full-service direct marketing and communications company, to supply advertisers and direct mailers with an easy, online count and order system for residential mailing lists with state-of-the-art mapping capabilities. AmeriComm has five locations across the United States.
SPRINGFIELD—Gannett Offset has signed an order for the final phase of a comprehensive enhancement program from Goss International to upgrade its existing presses. The project involves the installation of Goss digital inker page packs and Goss press controls across Gannett Offset's fleet of presses. This latest order from Gannett Offset is for the installation of digital inkers on its Goss Colorliner press. The press was the first Goss Colorliner in the U.S., originally installed in 1988.

KENOSHA—Badger Press has purchased a Duplo System 4000 bookletmaker from Best Graphics.
MENOMONEE FALLS—Postal Solutions, a marketing production firm, has announced a new company name. Proven Direct marks the formal launch of its newest services—variable imaging and online marketing. According to the company, the word "postal" defined the company solely as a mailing house. The Proven Direct name, accompanied by the tagline "Your Marketing Solutions Group," will apply immediately in electronic communications. The company reports it has also launched a new Website at www.provendirect.com.
MILWAUKEE—A two-color, 20x28˝ Sakurai 272EPIIL perfector press has been installed by the Milwaukee County Transit System.
