Digital Printing Gear New to Boston Area
LOWELL, MA—King Printing has added a Kodak NexPress 2100 digital production color press, Kodak NexTreme DL-1000 variable data client-server package and Kodak NexTreme DL-100 variable data software. Adi Chinai, joint managing director (pictured), says the installation has helped grow the education and trade book publishing segments of his business by giving customers quicker time to market.
Printing Excellence Celebrated by GAA
PHILADELPHIA—The Graphic Arts Association (GAA) recently held its 35th annual Neographics awards ceremony and banquet to celebrate quality printing, as well as Ben Franklin’s 300th birthday. Riegel Printing of Ewing, NJ, was the Prisco 2006 Power of Print winner. Bob Stevens, partner, Susan Heath, partner, Kevan Brown, partner, and Kathy Atkins, president and partner, accepted the honor. Also, William McLean III, retired CEO of Independent Publications, was named Neographics Person of the Year and Dutch Brooks of The Imaging Group accepted GAA’s first ever Pressperson of the Year award.

LOS ANGELES—Lithographix Inc. has installed a six-color, 81˝ KBA Rapida 205 super-large format sheetfed press with coater.
ROCKLIN—J&M Printing is now running a new four-color Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52 press with in-line aqueous coater. The new press was installed alongside two additional Speedmaster SM 52s.
SANTA CLARA—Theatre Publications/Pisani Printing has put a five-color Komori Lithrone 28 with coater into operation at its new facility here.
GEORGIA
DALTON—Brown Industries, a multi-plant printer and producer of POP materials, has added an HP Indigo 5000 to its Web-to-print facility here.

ORLANDO—Moran Printing has purchased a Kluge OmniFold automatic folder/gluer. Moran’s configuration included a flipgate, Bump 90, nine foot in-line section (IL-9), friction feeder, four-head cold glue kit with applicator and four-head hot melt glue system with controller. This setup will be used to convert CD mailers and tuck boxes.

ROSELLE—Compton Presentation Systems, based here, has acquired Midland Communications Packaging of Louisville, KY. All manufacturing and corporate operations will be based in Roselle with satellite marketing and sales offices in Louisville.
ST. CHARLES—Integrated Graphics is now running a five-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000S press with aqueous coater.

GRAND RAPIDS—A Kodak NexPress 2100 Plus digital production press has been put into service at Wolverine Printing. The company says it can now offer its customers higher-value, higher-impact communications in full-color.
MINNESOTA
BROOKLYN PARK—GLS Companies is now running a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 press with in-line aqueous coating and a Polar 78 X cutter.
NEW HOPE—J.D. Brower Investment Group (The PGI Companies Inc.) has acquired a majority interest in Marcom Services (aka MarcomNordic). This will enhance PGI’s packaging, mailing and fulfillment competencies. The companies will operate separately.
PLYMOUTH—Online Press reports logging one million impressions in the first four months of usage of its Kodak NexPress 2100. The company plans a second NexPress installation and a move to a new facility by year’s end.
MISSOURI
WASHINGTON—The Washington Missourian, a twice-weekly newspaper and commercial printer, is expanding a seven-unit Goss Urbanite press to an 18-unit, fully automated offset system. The rebuilt/upgrade project is being handled by Pressline Services.

RENO—Pro Line Printing has invested in its fourth Goss press in two years with the purchase of another C700i insert press. The latest order brings the total number of Goss presses in its stable to 19. The 66˝-wide Goss C700i press, scheduled to be in production by July, will be configured with four printing units and one folder. It will be equipped with the Goss DigiRail inking system.

EAST HANOVER—Ace Lithographers has installed a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52 perfector with coater to replace a five-color press. The shop also added Prinect Axis Control to increase productivity through accurate color measurement.

ALBUQUERQUE—A recent Goss press enhancement project at Albuquerque Publishing included an investment in Goss digital inking upgrades on 60 printing couples, Goss press console upgrades on three Metroliner presses, and 22 reel tension paster enhancements for improved web tension control and reporting.

NEW YORK CITY—The New York Times Co. has selected MAN Roland’s printnet production management system to streamline advertising production operations for The New York Times and the Boston Globe.
ROCHESTER—The Riverside Group recently completed installation of an EFI Logic comprehensive plant management software system.

CINCINNATI—Bramkamp Printing, celebrating its 85th year, has installed a Xerox DocuColor 240 and a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74 with perfecting and coating capabilities.

LANCASTER—Engle Printing & Publishing has purchased two four-high towers of the Tensor T-500 press to be installed on Engle’s existing Goss Universal press. The press will be installed by late summer of this year.

PHILADELPHIA—A six-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000S sheetfed press equipped with an in-line coater and CIP3/4 link to prepress is a new addition to the pressroom at Smith-Edwards-Dunlap Co.

JACKSON—McCowat-Mercer Packaging, a package printer, has increased its throughput by connecting its new computer-to-plate system to its new six-color, 51˝ KBA Rapida 130a sheetfed press.
NASHVILLE—An Accel Graphic Systems Sentinel ink management system has been installed on a six-color Mitsubishi D3000 press at Buford Lewis Co.

HUTCHINS—Corporate Express Document & Print Management announced that its forms manufacturing plant here recently became ISO 9001:2000 certified.
VIRGINIA
HARRISONBURG—Nipson has upgraded equipment at RR Donnelley’s digital book production facility here. Also, the shop has invested in a SigmaLine from Muller Martini using Nipson as its core digital printing technology.
WISCONSIN
GRAFTON—Philipp Lithographing recently installed a KBA Rapida 205 sheetfed press.
GREEN BAY—Van Lanen Printing has reportedly become the first commercial printing company in Northeastern Wisconsin to receive chain-of-custody certification by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
