New Press Heats Up Southern Market
ATLANTA—A five-color Sakurai 575SDC sheetfed press with in-line coater is now running jobs at Canterbury Press. The machine, which is the first of its kind in the Atlanta market, was installed by dealer Paper Handling Solutions.
TEMPE—Business Cards Tomorrow (BCT) has added a Presstek direct imaging (DI) press to its facility here and in Denver to support increased demand for short run, fast-turnaround printing.
HAWTHORNE—Lithographix Inc. has installed a Sentinel ink management system from Accel Graphic Systems on its eight-color Mitsubishi D3000 press.

GREELEY—Kendall Printing recently purchased its third Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 102 press. Added to complement its all-
Heidelberg pressroom, the new 10-color SM 102 with perfector and coater was installed alongside the shop’s new bindery equipment, which includes a Stitchmaster ST 350 saddlestitcher and a Polar 137XT cutter. The company also uses Heidelberg’s systemservice 36plus program.
ATLANTA—DATAMATX, a provider of printed and electronic billing solutions, has launched FolioPDF and eApprove2 services to streamline the pre-print and customer approval processes. The two services were developed in-house by DATAMATX staff.
VALMEYER—MAR Graphics, a trade-only printer, has finalized the purchase of a 10-color press from Muller Martini. The Concepta web press with inter-station UV dryers and two-sided video web inspection accommodates 50˝ rolls.
WOODSTOCK—Brown Printing’s facility here has been named Time Inc. “Printer of the Year” for 2005. Brown also has facilities in Waseca, MN, and East Greenville, PA, both of which also produce Time Inc. work.
FLORENCE—Lohr Printing has delved into the digital printing market with the addition of a Xerox DocuColor 8000 digital press. After purchasing the digital press through Enovation Graphic Systems, the company transformed a former darkroom into a new prepress area.
COVINGTON—Newforms Inc. has entered the four-color printing market with the purchase of a four-color Heidelberg Printmaster QM DI 46 press.
BALTIMORE—Woodberry Graphics installed a Kluge UniFold automatic folder/gluer configured with a vertical bucklefolder, transtable III, two-head hot glue system and Final Fold II.
BOSTON—MassEnvelopePlus, the marketing products and services firm headed by former Democratic National Committee Chairman Steve Grossman, has changed its name to Grossman Marketing Group.
BROOKLYN PARK—Commercial sheetfed printer Printing Arts is under new ownership and has added two new presses. The new owners are Jerry Shapiro, CEO, Rick Hansen, president, and Thomas Lundberg, vice president. Also joining the company is Ron Cole, general manager. Two new six-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi presses with aqueous coaters are now in operation.
FAIRFIELD—Redi-Mail Direct Marketing has unveiled a new 20,000-square-foot state and federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) approved sample distribution facility here.
NEW YORK CITY—Advanced Business Group announced the acquisition of a Heidelberg Printmaster Plus sheetfed press to handle an increase in fast-turnaround color work.
ROCHESTER—Canfield and Tack has added its fifth Komori press, a six-color Lithrone S40P with coater.
HAMILTON—Quality Publishing has purchased a Prosetter 74
computer-to-plate device and a five-color Speedmaster SM 74 perfector with coater from Heidelberg.
HAZELTON—IMC America has received contracts from Quebecor World to install Recmi pressroom automation, a web cooling system from Axima, as well as retrofit PGE conveyors to an existing press at its facility here. In conjunction with a new directory press, IMC will provide automatic log stackers, a floor conveyor and a fully automatic robotic palletizer.
HOUSTON—The Premier Co. recently received a Houston Better Business Bureau (BBB) Award for Excellence as a winner of distinction for 2006. As a BBB member, Premier was recognized as a company that has maintained a superior commitment to ethics, overall excellence and quality in the workplace. The Premier Co. is a mail house with complete printing capabilities.
OGDEN—Ace Printing has added a four-color Komori sheetfed press with in-line aqueous coating.
STERLING—Colorcraft of Virginia has selected Prism-WIN as the print management system for its operations. The fully customizable system offers modules for quoting and jobbing, production management, financial management, sales order processing, report writing, purchasing, inventory and shop floor management.

GRAFTON—Philipp Lithographing, a large-format printer specializing in packaging and point-of-purchase displays, recently installed a six-color, 80˝ KBA Rapida 205 and added 7,500 square feet to its facility to accommodate the press.
HARTLAND—Commercial Communications Inc. (CCI) has upgraded its Océ Variostream 9000 digital printing equipment to the 9230 system. CCI can now print three-over-three and support a wider range of applications including variable data printing and production publishing, and handle a wide range of substrates.
