IRVINE—OCB Reprographics, which is celebrating its 80th year in business, has expanded from seven to 13 Southern California locations through recent openings and acquisitions.
MODESTO—This fall, Pacific Southwest Container will add its fifth KBA sheetfed press, a six-color, 64˝ Rapida 162A model.
STUART—Southeastern Printing recently implemented Staccato screening technology developed by Creo, a subsidiary of Eastman Kodak.
ILLINOIS
AURORA—Kelmscott Press has added a six-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000S sheetfed press with tower coater.
CHICAGO—The Palmer Printing Network has purchased its first Komori press, a six-color Lithrone S40 with coater.
WOODRIDGE—A new five-color, 56˝ KBA Rapida 142 large-format press with coater and in-line slitter was installed in July at All-Out Inc., a startup operation launched by J.B. Capuano in November 2005. A Kodak NexPress was also added.
WILMINGTON—BellSouth-owned Stevens Graphics, the third largest directory printer in the country, has installed the first Prism-QTMS iQ system in the United States. QTMS iQ is the newest version of the print management system, comprising monitoring modules and custom-developed sensors that automatically record and collate shop-floor information and statistics.
WOBURN—The Graphic Group is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The company is expanding its services to include Web-to-print ordering.
WOBURN—UniGraphic Inc. has chosen to install two KBA presses: a seven-color, 41˝ Rapida 105 sheetfed press and a 74 Karat digital offset waterless press.
MINNESOTA
MINNEAPOLIS—Shapco Printing has added a Kluge OmniFold folder/gluer for converting products like pocket folders, lock-bottom boxes, partition packages, inserting, CD wallets, etc.
ST. PAUL—Smyth Companies, headquartered here, has purchased two new presses. The first press, destined for Smyth’s Bedford, VA, sheetfed operation, is an eight-color Mitsubishi press equipped with interdeck curing and specialized feeding to handle the film materials Smyth prints for synthetic wrap and in-mold label products. The second press, for Smyth’s Minneapolis-based rollfed plant, is an Omet UV flexo rotary screen press.
NEW JERSEY
CARLSTADT—Pictorial Offset announced that Domtar Paper will be the sole sponsor of the Pictorial
University Fall Session at the McGraw-Hill Auditorium in New York City on October 17. The Pictorial University Fall Session is themed Print Works: Quality + Sustainability = Profitability. Pictorial University is open to all brand marketers, corporate print buyers, advertising agencies and graphic arts creative and production professionals.
PENNSAUKEN—Garrison Printing has added its fourth Heidelberg press, a six-color, 40˝ Speedmaster SM 102 with aqueous coater.
TINTON FALLS—Customer demand for customized communications led Hatteras Press to install a Kodak NexPress 2100 plus digital production color press equipped with a fifth imaging unit.
OHIO
DAYTON—WorkflowOne has been awarded a multi-million dollar, multi-year contract from Allina Hospitals and Clinics, one of the largest employers in Minnesota and a previous Relizon client. The agreement calls for WorkflowOne to serve as the preferred provider of print management services for Allina’s 11 acute care hospitals, 65 clinics and other healthcare facilities throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.
PENNSYLVANIA
GIBSONIA—Williams Printing recently transitioned to computer-to-plate (CTP) production with the addition of a Heidelberg Suprasetter 74 platesetter. Williams Printing also uses Heidelberg consumable products, including Saphira Chemfree thermal plates.
JENKINTOWN—The Goodway Group, a 77-year-old advertising agency and printing company, has created Goodway 2.0 to guide companies through the 21st century marketing maze.
MAYFIELD—The P.A. Hutchison Co. has renovated and expanded its office space, doubling its offices to provide more room for its expanding staff. A $2.7 million plant expansion was completed in 2004.
VIRGINIA
RICHMOND—xpedx Printing Technologies has sold and installed Ryobi’s first-ever eight-color press in the U.S. market to the in-plant printing facility of Dominion, a producer and distributor of energy. The 23x29˝ press, a Ryobi 758 with interdeck UV dryer/curing unit, is the third Ryobi press ordered by Dominion, which operates an all-Ryobi in-plant.
WISCONSIN
ARCADIA—Supreme Graphics has installed a Kluge UniFold automatic folder/gluer with vertical buckle folder, TransTable III and a two-head hot melt glue system to produce presentation folders.
GREEN BAY—Van Lanen Inc. (formerly Van Lanen Printing) has signed an agreement to implement THE System business management software from CRC Information Systems.
HARTLAND—Commercial Communications Inc. (CCI), a provider of document management and information distribution solutions, has signed a two-year contract with healthcare provider Schaller Anderson Inc. CCI will manage the printing, fulfillment and distribution of all printed materials needed to
support Schaller Anderson’s programs.
