Trio of Presses Leads to a Fourth CARLSTADT, NJ—George Amann, president and CEO of UNIMAC Graphics, already had a family of KBA presses: a six-color, 64? Rapida 162a sheetfed perfector; a Compacta 215 16-page heatset web press; and an eight-color, 56? Rapida 142 sheetfed perfector with in-line interdeck UV coating. But, he needed one more KBA press to fully expand his capabilities, so he purchased a new automated, six-color, 41? Rapida 106 with UV coater, perfecting after the second unit, board kit and extended delivery.
The KBA Rapida 106, which was unveiled at Drupa 2008, features 18,000 sph output and ultrafast makeready capabilities. It was installed at UNIMAC in October.
ARIZONA
PHOENIX—Can-Do Printing is saving $5,500+ in labor and paper costs each month, since installing a new six-color, 23x29? Ryobi 750 series press with aqueous coater from xpedx.
CALIFORNIA
SAN DIEGO—Digitalpro Inc. has added a five-color Komori Lithrone SX29 (LSX 529) offset press, equipped with automatic plate changing and program-controlled pre-inking and removing functionality.
FLORIDA
MELBOURNE—Preparing to kick off its 40th anniversary next year, Flamingo Printing has invested in a new Konica Minolta 6500 digital printer with a Creo RIP and automated finishing capabilities.
GEORGIA
STONE MOUNTAIN—The coldset and heatset web presses at the Sauers Group are now running in greater synergy, saving time and money, since the printer upgraded its presses with an EPG KeyColor C integrated color control system and AutoSet presetting.
SUWANEE—A certified, remarketed Kluge EHE series foil stamping, embossing and diecutting press has recently been purchased by Direct Technologies.
MARYLAND
ROCKVILLE—Outgrowing its 20-year-old MIS software, EU Services invested in a new PrintStream fully integrated print, direct mail and fulfillment business management system, from Streamline Solutions.
MASSACHUSETTS
CHARLESTOWN—To produce high-end books on-demand, 187-year-old Acme Bookbinding has installed an HP Indigo 5500 digital press.
MICHIGAN
STERLING HEIGHTS—Web Litho has invested in a new Heidelberg Suprasetter A74 platesetter that is using Saphira Chemfree thermal plates.
MINNESOTA
MINNEAPOLIS—Commercial printer Reflections has announced the acquisition of Pinnacle Signs, a wide-format operation, which will be moved into Reflections’ facility by year’s end.
NEW JERSEY
JERSEY CITY—The DG3 Group, a global communications provider, is standardizing its worldwide print management system with the EFI Hagen OA MIS toolset, AutoCount direct machine interface technology and PrintFlow dynamic scheduling.
NORWOOD—As a package printer in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and cosmetics segments, Norwood Printing installed its third Edelmann web press, distributed by Matik North America.
NEW YORK
ROCHESTER—Monroe Litho has been recognized as one of “America’s Safest Companies” by Occupational Hazards magazine. Monroe Litho is one of only 18 companies in the United States to receive the award, as well as the only company in New York State and the only firm in the entire printing industry to receive the recognition.
UTICA—Brodock Press has purchased its first Komori sheetfed press: an eight-color Lithrone S40 with a centralized touch-panel control system.
OHIO
CINCINNATI—After more than 18 years in the commercial printing business, Neuform Graphics is transitioning into security printing, and has installed a five-color Heidelberg Printmaster PM 52 perfector, a Prinect workflow system and a Suprasetter A52 platesetter.
CLEVELAND—A second two-color Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46 has been added at AlphaGraphics.
EASTLAKE—G7 Master Printer certification from IDEAlliance has been earned by Modern International Graphics.
OKLAHOMA
TULSA—Long-time Xeikon technology user Odyssey Digital Printing has bought a Xeikon 3300, the manufacturer’s newest model digital color label press that debuted at Drupa 2008.
TEXAS
GEORGETOWN—The Minuteman Press printing center here was awarded the Top Overall Performance Award, which was presented to owners Crystal and Ty Gipson, at a recent Las Vegas ceremony in front of more than 700 other franchise owners.
MESQUITE—To ensure exact color matches on its 36 presses (which represent six different printing processes), IntegraColor recently installed ORIS digital proofing technology to meet GRACoL standards. The ORIS package consists of Color Tuner Pro, PressMatcher, Certified Proof, InkSaver and PearlProof Super Professional Proofing Media—from CGS Publishing Technologies.
VIRGINIA
FREDERICKSBURG—A new servo-driven, variable repeat, Drent Goebel Vision MKIII UV press will be installed at the Quad- Direct mail facility here in early 2009.
