Centenarian Printer Continues to Evolve
Recently, Davis Printing also acquired Merrick Graphics. Steve Merrick was named Davis Printing’s vice president of marketing and president of the new creative division, Merrick Design Group.
MONTGOMERY—Wells Printing has installed a Sakurai 675SD sheetfed press with coater. It was purchased through dealer Independent Graphic Services.
CALIFORNIA
CITY OF INDUSTRY—Modem Graphics, a 90-employee printer and graphic services provider, recently installed a Mitsubishi Diamond 3000S sheetfed press equipped with an aqueous coater, its second six-color, 40˝ Diamond series press in six months.

DENVER—Warneke Paper Box is now producing jobs on its new eight-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 with coater and full UV capabilities. The specialty printer’s 68 employees produce packaging materials for clients in the pharmaceutical, medical, food and cosmetic industries.
GEORGIA
NORCROSS—Trade printer Custom Color Printing & Graphics suffered a plant fire in its production area in April. Its five-color, 19x26˝ Polly 566 press was severely damaged, but no one was injured and little damage was done to the other production equipment. In August, the company installed a six-color Komori press, ECRM Mako 4 platesetter and in-line processor to replace the damaged equipment.

ELK GROVE VILLAGE—Paulson Press, a full-service general commercial printer, recently added a six-color Speedmaster XL 105 to its all-

CROWN POINT—Kwik Copy has purchased a Sakurai 466SI press from dealer Fuller Grafix.
MICHIGAN
TROY—J&M Reproductions is now running a Sakurai 466SIP press, purchased through dealer Mid-State Litho.
MINNESOTA
Minneapolis—Maximum Graphics, a Consolidated Graphics company, has tapped MAN Roland for a new eight-color Roland 700 perfector equipped with in-line coating and an extended delivery.
MISSOURI
KANSAS CITY—Richardson Printing, a full-service commercial print provider, recently installed a six-color Komori Lithrone S40 perfector with coater and a six-color Lithrone 28 with coater at its new 115,000-square-foot facility. Named as one of Kansas City’s 100 fastest growing businesses in recent years, Richardson Printing serves the transportation, pharmaceutical, publishing and manufacturing industries.
MONTANA
LEWISTOWN—The Lewistown News-Argus and The News-Argus Printing has purchased a five-color Heidelberg MO press. It reportedly is the largest sheetfed press in central Montana.
NEVADA
LAS VEGAS—Full Color Printing has invested in a new five-color MAN Roland 500 press with an in-line coating unit and extended delivery.
NEW JERSEY
Carlstadt—Pictorial Offset announced it has been selected for membership into the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s National Environmental Performance Track Program.
NEW YORK
MOUNT VERNON—General commercial printer Rose Press recently installed a second Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46-2 to augment its small-format capability as the $6.5 million company grows.
QUEENS—The New York Times signed a letter of intent to order a new Goss Colorliner double-width press for its production facility here. The new press, with 12 towers and 96 printing couples, is scheduled to be installed in early 2008. The agreement also calls for Goss to complete web-width reduction projects on five existing Colorliner presses at the facility.
APEX—The Henry Wurst Inc. facility here has purchased a Xerox iGen3 digital production press to expand its personalization capabilities.
CHARLOTTE—Classic Graphics has selected and implemented EFI Hagen OA as its print management system, along with EFI PrintFlow and PrinterSite Internal to help manage its business more efficiently. Classic Graphics employs 140 people in two locations with sales of approximately $25 million.
NEW WASHINGTON—Facing growing competition in its offset printing services, Herald Printing is using a Kodak NexPress 2500 digital production press to bring in additional revenue streams and separate itself from other printers in the market.
TENNESSEE
NASHVILLE—M. Lee Smith Publishers and Parris Printing have reached a tentative agreement on a long-term partnership which included the purchase of M. Lee Smith Publishers’ printing division. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. With the agreement, Parris Printing will have approximately 98 full-time employees with 2007 projected annual sales in excess of $14 million.
TEXAS
AUSTIN—When former Texas Governor Ann Richards died in September, her family, friends and former colleagues had only a few days to put together a world-class event. The most visually important elements of the memorial service were the two 20x20 foot banners featuring photos of Governor Richards. The banners were quickly produced by printer CC West for advertising agency GSD&M.
DALLAS—Padgett Printing’s new 15,000-square-foot mailing and fulfillment operation is up and running. The new facility is across the street from Padgett’s main plant. Stacy Stevenson, mailing services manager, is heading up the 15-person, two-shift operation.
SAN ANTONIO—The addition of a Kodak Magnus 400 platesetter and Kodak Thermal Direct no-process printing plates have proved to be a combination that effectively eliminates the use of chemicals during the prepress process for The Graphic Arts Group.
SEATTLE—Seattle Bindery has added a Kluge OmniFold automatic folder/gluer configured with a flipgate, additional left hand register guide, nine-foot in-line section, automatic tape head, four-head hot melt and two-head fugitive glue systems. The new equipment will be used for a wide range of pocket folder formats.
Wisconsin
LA CROSSE—Prizm Companies/Prizm Pre-Press, a provider of printing and prepress services, announced the roll out of a new branding strategy for the company that includes an identity initiative, a redesign of the company Website, and a number of comprehensive, customer-focused marketing solutions. As part of its identity initiative, Prizm has introduced a new logo and is now referring to the company simply as “Prizm.”
MENOMONEE FALLS—Inland Graphics announced the addition of a 10-color Heidelberg perfecting press. Inland Graphics and the Hi-Liter Graphics division of the company employ 184 people.
WAUKESHA—J.B. Kenehan Printing and Communication Services has added a second Goss web press at its facility here. The new 16-page
M-500 press system includes a JF-40 folder. Goss International also supplied a Contiweb splicer, Ecotherm dryer and Omnicon press control.
