BIRMINGHAM—Telephone directory producer Stevens Graphics is expanding its press fleet with the addition of a double-circumference KBA Compacta 818 web press at its facility here.
HUNTSVILLE—AdeptMedia Corp. has installed its first digital press, a Xerox iGen3 110 color digital production press.
PELHAM—Dealer Independent Graphic Services has sold a Sakurai 574EPII sheetfed press to Sweet Pea Designs.
LITTLE ROCK—In its quest to continually enhance production capacity and print quality, Magna IV has installed its first convertible press. The 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000R is configured for four-over-four sheetfed printing with aqueous tower coaters before and after the sheet-reversing unit.
CALIFORNIA
GARDENA—A five-color, 40˝ MAN Roland 700 press with coater is scheduled to be installed this month at Elite Color Technologies.
SAN FRANCISCO—The State Compensation Insurance Fund has invested in a Sakurai 466 SIP press. It was purchased through Sakurai dealer K. Wilson & Co.
SAN JOSE—The Press, a Silicon Valley commercial printer, has switched to using Agfa’s ThermoFuse :Amigo plate.
GRAND JUNCTION—Colorado Printing is the first U.S. print shop to install a Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74-4+LY-P-4+LX, which prints four-over-four and applies aqueous coating on both sides of the sheet in a single pass. The shop traded in two older presses (a four-color and a five-color) for the new eight-color CD 74.
FLORIDA
MIAMI LAKES—Associated Printing Productions, a $6 million commercial printer, has added a Mitsubishi Diamond 3000S to its sheetfed lineup. The six-color press with aqueous tower coater is the family owned shop’s first 40˝ model, as well as its first Mitsubishi press.
WINTER PARK—Using the performance of its first MAN Roland 500 press as its benchmark, Superior Printers has ordered its second Roland 500 in as many years. Both presses are six-color with coater models, and the new press will bring perfecting capabilities to the company.
AUGUSTA—Morris Publishing Group has purchased a Uniset web offset press from MAN Roland for production of the Savannah Morning News, Bluffton (SC) Today newspapers and other publications.
ILLINOIS
VALMEYER—MAR Graphics reports reducing makeready time and waste by 50 percent after installing a Muller Martini Concepta variable-size web press.
IOWA
DES MOINES—Garner Printing, a long-time Komori customer, has added its ninth Komori sheetfed press, a six-color Lithrone S40 with coaster.
MASSACHUSETTS
QUINCY—When Golden Manet Press, a 90-year-old union shop, needed to replace an older two-color Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46, the printer turned to the latest version of the two-color Printmaster QM 46. The company’s previous model had run more than 20 million impressions since its installation more than six years ago.
MICHIGAN
DEARBORN—Hatteras Printing has purchased a Sakurai 572 with coater from dealer MidState Litho.
ROCKFORD—Wynalda Litho is growing larger with a six-color MAN Roland 900XXL extra-large-format press with in-line coater and extended delivery.
MINNEAPOLIS—A six-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000LX press with UV printing and coating capabilities is now in operation primarily printing on plastics and uncoated paper at UpFront.
OHIO
TOLEDO—Metzgers Printing & Mailing, a 30-year-old commercial printer, announced the installation of a Mitsubishi Diamond 3000S sheetfed press with tower coater. The six-color press is Metzgers’ first Mitsubishi press and first 40˝ machine.
OKLAHOMA
TULSA—Corporate Express Document & Print Management reports that its forms manufacturing plant here recently became ISO 9001:2000 certified. It is the sixth of the company’s plants to receive the quality management certification.
TEXAS
LEWISVILLE—Metroplex Printing and Finishing, which was formed by a private investor group to serve as the owner of the purchased assets, has completed the acquisition of substantially all of the assets and business of Metroplex Finishing and JB Printing in separate transactions.
PLANO—Embassy Press has installed a four-color Heidelberg Quickmaster DI 46-4 Pro Spot with digital imaging.
MANASSAS—Billet Graphics has purchased a Sakurai 575SD press with coater.
RICHMOND—Cadmus Communications announced that the American Academy of Pediatrics has awarded the company a five-year contract to provide a full range of outsourced publishing production services for its three publications.
FRANKLIN—Troyk Printing reports it has installed a wide-format Luscher UV flatbed printer.
