BELMONT—Moquin Press reports increasing its pressroom capacity by 30 percent with the addition of its second Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 sheetfed press. The trade printer does $14 million in annual sales.
CITY OF INDUSTRY—A new six-color MAN Roland 700 perfector with in-line coater, UV capabilities and extended delivery is now in operation at Marrs Printing and Packaging.
GLENDALE—Macson Printing & Lithography, a family owned commercial printer serving the Los Angeles metropolitan area, installed a four-color Mitsubishi Diamond 3000R convertible sheetfed perfector equipped with an aqueous tower coater.
LOS ANGELES—A West Coast shop is rewriting the book on being environmentally greener while improving its pressroom profitability. Schawk Los Angeles received chain-of-custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in recognition of its environmentally sound production practices, as it prepared for the installation of the world’s first eight-color-plus-coater version of the 73˝ MAN Roland 900 XXL press.
DENVER—NELA announced that phase one of one of its largest U.S. newspaper plate automation projects has been successfully completed. The Denver Newspaper Agency received two of five NELA Vision punch/benders in connection with its new press and installation of five CTP systems. The installation includes a plate transportation system and plate handling software to enable automatic delivery of plates into the pressroom.
CONNECTICUT
ELLINGTON—Full-service package printer Rice Packaging is now utilizing a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 press equipped with Prinect Image Control.
WINDSOR—Integrity Graphics, a full-service commercial printer that produces all types of marketing collateral materials for a broad-based clientele, has installed a six-color, 40˝ Komori Lithrone S40 perfector.
ORLANDO—Heidelberg has delivered its 1,500th Prosetter violet platesetter to Allegra Print and Imaging. Allegra’s addition of the Prosetter P 74 represents the next logical step for the shop, which moved to four-color printing three years ago with the installation of a Heidelberg Printmaster PM 52 and plans to expand into the midsize market.
ST. PETERSBURG—Sandy Alexander, headquartered in Clifton, NJ, has changed the name of its in-line printing plant operating here from MGA to Sandy Alexander.
BLOOMINGTON—Original Smith Printing has expanded the feeding capabilities of its Kluge OmniFold automatic folder/gluer by adding a friction feeder to its configuration.
INDIANA
GOSHEN—WorkflowOne’s facility here has become the company’s first manufacturing plant to earn both the ISO 9001:2000 and ISO/TS 16949:2002 quality management process certifications. The Goshen facility manufactures printed labels and business forms.
MADISON—Digital Printing has installed a two-color Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46 press for producing short-run work.
WICHITA—Donlevy Lithograph, a full-service commercial printer, recently installed a six-color Komori Lithrone S40 (LS640) in its facility here.
MARYLAND
BALTIMORE—Art Litho Printing Solutions has added a second shift for its web pressroom. Comprised of a four-man crew, it has allowed the company to increase production capacity by 25 percent.
MINNESOTA
ST. PAUL—Sexton Printing has purchased a Xerox DocuColor 7000 digital color press to meet the expanding short-run, variable imaging requirements of its customers.
STILLWATER—Modernistic Inc. is now operating a six-color Processor II E in-line press.
HATTIESBURG—Copy Cats Printing has installed a four-color Heidelberg Printmaster PM 52 press and has upgraded its prepress department with the addition of a Prosetter 74 violet platesetter.
MISSOURI
ST. LOUIS—Von Hoffmann has selected and implemented EFI Prograph software as the job management system for its book manufacturing facilities.
NEW JERSEY
HILLSBOROUGH—East Coast Media announced the acquisition of a four-color Hamada press and Mitsubishi direct-to-plate system for short-run output.
NORTH BERGEN—Edison Litho & Printing has purchased its second large-format KBA press in less than two years. Edison installed a six-color, 64˝ Rapida 162 sheetfed press with aqueous coater in January, alongside its six-color, 81˝ Rapida 205.
ROME—An eight-color MAN Roland 700 perfector was added by employee-owned The Canterbury Press.
NORTH CAROLINA
GREENSBORO—Carolina Graphic Services has added large-format printing to its repertoire while expanding capacity with a new six-color, 64˝ MAN Roland 900 XXL with coater and extended delivery.
OHIO
FREEPORT—Freeport Press has purchased EFI Hagen Prograph, EFI PrintFlow and EFI Auto-Count to manage its publication and direct mail printing operations.
OREGON
TUALATIN—Precision Graphics of Oregon has signed an agreement to implement THE System business management software from CRC Information Systems.
VIRGINIA
RICHMOND—Cadmus Communications, which was recently acquired by Cenveo, reports that 1105 Media, an integrated media and information firm, has selected Cadmus to be its exclusive provider of publisher services.
WASHINGTON
BELLEVUE—CCS Printing announced the opening of its new on-site print center located in T-Mobile USA’s headquarters here. This is the sixth onsite copy center operated by CCS in the Seattle area.
WISCONSIN
MAYVILLE—Tab Products is now using a Kluge Certified UniFold automatic folder/gluer for converting pocket folders. Options include a two-line hot melt glue system, TransTable III and a friction feeder.
RIPON—As part of a larger plan, Ripon Printers changed 137 400-watt metal halide fixtures to T8 fluorescents from Orion Energy Services. This cut power usage by 53 percent in the bindery and mailing departments and earned Ripon the Orion Environmental Stewardship Award. A rural development grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture helped fund the retrofit.
