AmEx to Close In-Plant, Outsource Print
WESTON, FL—American Express is closing its in-plant here, a move that will leave 300 without jobs, the South Florida Business Journal reported. Another 100 workers will be transferred to the Plantation (FL) facilities.
According to the newspaper, American Express inked a deal with DST Output to farm out its monthly statement processing for card members and merchants in North America and Europe. The shift to DST facilities in California and Connecticut will start in early 2014, and once the transition is completed, American Express will close its Weston office.
Doria Camaraza, senior vice president of American Express World Service, told the Journal that online bill payment has minimized the need for the company to maintain standalone printing and distribution operations.
The impacted employees primarily handle printing and distribution. The workers who are being moved to Plantation are responsible for customer payments and remittance, the Journal said.
