Another Worker Dies in Accident at the Same International Paper Mill This Year
CAMPTI, LA—March 3, 2015—For the second time this year, a worker has been killed in an accident at the International Paper Red River Mill here.
Natchitoches Parish authorities told KSLA-TV that David Scott Long, 42, was working on the scaffolding crew when his harness became tangled in a machine, causing him to fall. The incident, which remains under investigation, occurred in the paper machine area of the mill around 11:45 a.m. Monday.
According to International Paper, Long was employed by the Bock Group, a contracted firm.
Long represents the second fatality at the mill in 2015. In January, Philip Whitehead, 57, fell 15 feet and suffered serious injuries. He was transported by helicopter to University Health and later died.
In a statement, International Paper wrote, "Our mill team is deeply saddened by the loss. Our thoughts go out to the individual’s family and friends."
