Appleton Coated Partners with ConVerd in Green Products

COMBINED LOCKS, WI—October 28, 2013—Appleton Coated has announced its partnership with Elk Grove Village, IL-based ConVerd. A leader in sustainable paper products creating green alternatives for printing and signage applications, ConVerd has chosen Appleton Coated as a supplier providing specially designed paper for its key product GreenLight Plus!

Donald Tomes, ConVerd’s CEO, explained, “We’re choosing to partner with Appleton Coated for two reasons: Their ability to deliver on the key product attributes of our GreenLight Plus! backlit signage products. The other reason is their focus on sustainability. This allows our product to be FSC (FSC C007796) certified, contain 10 percent postconsumer recycled fiber, and be fully recyclable.”

Tomes continued, “We found a kindred business partner in Appleton Coated. The specially formulated technical paper they designed and manufacture specifically for us exceeds our expectations and those of our sustainably minded customers. GreenLight Plus! not only delivers excellent printability and print quality; it does so at an affordable price.”

Appleton Coated’s CEO, Doug Osterberg, also added that the partnership demonstrates one of the company's key strengths—the ability to take its customers’ needs and translate those to custom-designed, paper-based solutions. "Our strong environmental position and service platform combined with our technical and manufacturing skills makes Appleton Coated a natural fit for ConVerd. We also manufacture the paper with renewable energy—Green-e-certified Green Power. It means that 100 percent of the electricity being used to manufacture this product is matched with renewable energy credits from Green-e certified energy sources, primarily wind.”

ConVerd showcased GreenLight Plus! at the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) Expo last week in Orlando, FL.

The first North American coated paper mill to be FSC-certified, Appleton Coated has a strong environmental management system in place as evidenced by its ISO 14001 certification.
