Print Shop Owner Pleads Guilty to Racketeering

DETROIT—The owner of ArtCraft Printing here has pleaded guilty to one count of conducting criminal enterprises (racketeering) for his role in operating an illegal sports betting operation, The Detroit News reported.

John Zunich, 70, the owner of ArtCraft, also pleaded no contest to one count of failure to file/false taxes, as did his wife, Ellen Zunich, 68. John Zunich used his printing equipment to produce football betting cards, which were spread throughout the city, according to The Detroit News.

Zunich's wife was accused of doctoring the financial records to make the proceeds appear to be legitimate income. The Zunichs took bets on college and pro football as well as college basketball, with John Zunich acting as the bookie. The sports book operation took place between 2002 and 2012.

More than $600,000 in gambling proceeds were forfeited. Racketeering carries a 20-year penalty. The couple is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 5.
