basysPrint to Demonstrate 857 UV-Setter #Ipex
IEPER, BELGIUM—March 16, 2010—basysPrint, a division of Punch Graphix and the inventor of UV computer-to-plate solutions, will be demonstrating at Ipex its new 857 UV-Setters with laser exposure technology for 8 up applications. basysPrint UV Setter systems are available in 4-up, 8-up and VLF configurations and offer a range of flexible configuration options to ensure an exact match to customer needs and optimal return on investment. basysPrint will be located in the Punch Graphix stand, Hall 11, Stand C230, at the show.
“basysPrint first demonstrated its UV-Setters 450 and 850 at drupa 2008 to very positive reviews,” said Christophe Lievens, Director of Sales and Marketing. “We are very pleased to be at Ipex with the latest generation of these highly-configurable flatbed UV Setters that guarantee ultimate flexibility with regard to operating speed, plate handling, format range and punching options.”
Modular Design
The UV-Setter Series 850 is designed to expose eight pages (up to format class 3b) and can be used for commercial, packaging and book printing alike. They expose all plate formats up to a maximum of 1150 x 940 mm (45" x 37").The exposure speed can be configured individually on the basis of high-performance diode modules (DSI³), enabling plate throughput rates to be more than doubled. The modular design places no restrictions on the diversity of automation solutions. Numerous variants are possible to augment the basic models in four- or eight-page format, for example with Single Cassette Automation (SCA) or fully automatic Multi-Cassette Automation (MCA). basysPrint UV-Setters expose all UV sensitive plates for all types of printing presses., and are fitted with an integrated punch, which provides fast, reliable and register-accurate customer-specific punching before exposure. Alternatively, it is possible to work with 3-point plate alignment.
DSI³ modules ensure stability and speed
The exposure units of the latest basysPrint UV-Setters 450, 850 and VLF are based on the proven DSI³ technology with high-performance diode modules, making UV platesetters an interesting option for both large and small companies. Unlike other CtP systems, basysPrint uses modules which combine the light output of several diodes installed separately from the exposure head. A compensator bundles the energy and delivers it via fiber optics to the DMD. DSI³ modules normally operate over the entire service life of the UV-Setter without need for replacement. A constant light output level is maintained within the modules by way of their APC (Automatic Power Control) circuitry. DSI³ basysPrint systems are characterized by a permanently high degree of stability, even without further calibration.
Cassettes increase platemaking automation
UV-Setter 450, 850 and VLF systems offer Single Cassette (SCA) or Multi-Cassette (MCA) automation. The single cassette holds up to 100 plates of a particular format in a storage cassette. Further plate formats can be made available by way of an additional trolley. The Single Cassette version can be expanded quickly and inexpensively if plate volumes justify an upgrade to a multi-cassette version.
The Multi-Cassette version holds a maximum of 500 plates in up to five different plate formats. The SCA and MCA variants both incorporate fully automatic slip sheet removal, and optionally also automatic punching as an option.
With their flatbed design, all versions of the UV-Setters 450, 850 and VLF can expose plates of different formats simultaneously. Using a 1-bit TIFF interface, users can freely choose whether to integrate a UV-Setter into an existing workflow system, or to install a dedicated overall solution tailored specifically to individual production requirements.
Ultimate economy
“We have worked hard to bring to market products that can image the broadest possible array of plate types,” added Lievens. “The basysPrint systems combine the benefits of CtP with the unique process and economic advantages of the conventional UV plate technology. Users may employ negative or positive plates from practically all manufacturers of UV-sensitive plates. These plates are light- and temperature-resistant, insensitive to scratches and available worldwide at unbeatable prices. UV-sensitive plates ensure low costs for chemistry and disposal, and simple integration into existing workflow systems and its customer-specific configuration. Visitors to our stand will be able to experience this innovative UV-Setter first-hand and quickly see how easily it will fit into their operational model while delivering productivity and cost improvements.”
With a UV-Setter 450 or 850 and conventional UV-sensitive plates, printers can be confident of achieving the maximum possible process and production stability: The square pixels of the basysPrint UV-Setter provide exact reproduction of the image pixels on the plate, while the optimum ink-water balance achieved by the plate itself guarantees edge-sharp transfer onto the substrate. Unbaked negative plates achieve run lengths of 400,000 and more. With a positive plate, this figure can be boosted to over 1.5 million impressions.
