Nano: A Cure-All?

When the Landa nano technology labs first began researching nano technology more than a decade ago, the original intent was for energy research. Now, the nano particle is on the precipice of forever altering the printing industry, and there may come a day, down the road, where it could save your life.

The nano particle offers exciting possibilities as a delivery platform for critical drug delivery, introducing drugs that are not bio-friendly to the body. Thinking about the impact this could have on combating cancer and AIDs is an exciting proposition to Benny Landa.

“In order for a drug to garner bio availability, it must somehow get into the blood. You can swallow or inject the drug to get it into the blood stream,” he notes. “Materials that are soluble, that can be dissolved or digested, easily do that. But materials that aren’t dissolvable in water cannot.

“There are a whole range of materials that are not very soluble in water which could have the potential for being good drugs,” Landa adds. “In order for them to be effective, you have to get these non-soluble materials to be small enough to go through all the capillaries in the body and even migrate through cell walls. So that means you have to make them, physically, very small, almost like molecules. And that means you have to make them into nano particles, and we know how to do that.”

Landa Labs, the innovation arm of the Landa group, is collaborating with a pharmaceutical giant, working with cancer and AIDs drugs (among others) using nano technology to turn the drugs into bio-available nano particles. The trials are ongoing, and Landa calls the process “very interesting and very rewarding.”

Meeting Benny Landa for the first time may be as fascinating as learning about the latest technology he's promoting. That the father of digital printing is a genius nonpareil is unquestionable. As for the charges he is an unrepentant self-promoter and a showman...in truth, he brings more substance and less flash to the table.
