Berman Printing Adds Capacity

Cincinnati—Berman Printing recently accepted delivery of a Jagenberg Diana 104-1 straight-line folder/gluer and a Domino JetArray ink-jet system, serving as the primary anchors for its new mailing, fulfillment and packaging operations.

In conjunction with its expanded capabilities, the company moved into 35,000 square feet of space at the back of its existing facility at 1441 Western Avenue, Cincinnati. The company now occupies 102,000 square feet.

In order to highlight the new facility, the company held an open house, co-sponsored by HRB/Komori, Agfa and Polaroid Graphics Imaging. More than 300 attended and the event showcased the company's expanded capabilities with plant tours throughout the day.

"Some of our existing clients have packaging needs that fit our new capabilities," notes Andy Berman, president of Berman Printing. "We're also targeting buyers of specialty packaging, including health and beauty, software and pilot runs.

"Our expansion into mailing and fulfillment represents an ongoing strategy of reviewing client needs and expanding into those areas that will better serve our market," he says. "We added these capabilities to provide more value to a broader range of Fortune 500 companies."

Berman notes his company is now able to provide boutique packaging and three-dimensional mailers to the beauty care, pharmaceutical and software industries.

The Domino JetArray is a high-speed ink-jet printer capable of printing up to eight lines of fully variable information in one pass. The unit is designed for a wide range of applications requiring high-resolution printing of text, graphics or bar codes and can be integrated into existing production equipment.

The Jagenberg Diana 104-1 high speed folding carton gluer is capable of handling a wide range of stocks for straight-line folding cartons, lockbottom cartons, double-wall cartons, tapered folding cartons, four- and six-corner glued collapsible boxes, miniature cartons and mailing envelopes. The Diana can handle stocks up to 40˝ wide at high rates of speed.

Berman Printing, founded in 1935, has 200 employees. With 1999 sales of $22.6 million, the company has two-, four- and six-color capabilities, as well as complete prepress and bindery facilities.
