New Diecutter a Plus for Northern Ohio
CLEVELAND—After spending upward of $10,000 a month to outsource its diecutting work, Northern Ohio Printing decided to pull those jobs back in-house with the acquisition of a KAMA TS 74-60HF diecutter with foil stamping and embossing features.
Gary Chmielewski, president and owner of Northern Ohio Printing, notes the new gear has begun to create a profitable niche market for itself. Thus far, the company has logged more than 40 diecutting, foil stamping and embossing jobs on the KAMA.
Northern Ohio specializes in short- to medium-run commercial printing, with runs between 100 and 5,000 pieces for foil stamping and embossing, and 50,000 and under for diecutting.
Established in 1994, the company has experienced 30 percent growth in each of the past three years and is on track to reach $4.5 million in revenues this year.
RBF Nets Guillotine Cutters, Diecutter For Trade Operation
ROCHESTER, NY—Rochester Binding & Finishing (RBF), based here, has acquired a pair of computer-controlled guillotine cutters from Heidelberg, a Polar 115ED and Polar 137ED, along with a new Brausse PE 102 diecutting press.
Ed DeLorm, president of RBF, notes that the updated programming and material handling systems on the new cutters enable the trade finisher to process printed sheets with faster, more accurate cuts. Each cutter is equipped with its own stack lift and jogging table, which reduces operator fatigue, thus improving productivity.
The new Brausse handfed diecutting press enables RBF to handle its point-of-purchase work, which is typically short run and mounted on heavy substrates.
RBF services commercial printers, ad agencies and publishers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
New Cutting System for Gintzler Graphics
BUFFALO, NY—Gintzler Graphics, which specializes in narrow web printing, has installed a programmable 54˝ Polar 137 XT cutting system with jogger, stack lift and integrated scale.
The new cutter from Heidelberg allows Gintzler to accommodate jobs requiring the specialized conversion of 35x50˝ synthetic polyester materials. President Frank Nice notes that the Polar makes the handling of larger sheets significantly more time- and labor-efficient.
Gintzler Graphics produces labels, films, and security and flexible packaging for the health and beauty, pharmaceutical and gourmet foods markets.
Graphic Center Bolsters Paper Cutting, Handling
SACRAMENTO, CA—Graphic Center, a web and sheetfed commercial printer based here, has recently upgraded its paper cutting and paper handling capabilities with several equipment purchases from Colter & Peterson.
Graphic Center installed three new 45˝ Saber paper cutters, each with an integrated touchscreen Microcut computer system with CIP4 capability. The Microcut module allows for automatic control of the backgauge, as well as storage and retrieval of job setup details, which speeds up repeat projects.
The company also installed several pieces of paper handling equipment, including a Baumann NUP 1600 stacker, a Baumann BA3S automatic unloader and a Colter & Peterson count-by-weight system. In tandem, the equipment improves productivity by eliminating operator lifting, while minimizing fatigue and chance of injury.
According to Graphic Center President Terry Grimes, productivity in the company’s cutting department has improved exponentially thanks to these installations.
