Bindery Matters
Heeter Direct Installs Horizon Finishing Equipment With Support from Graphco
CANONSBURG, PA—Two new installations at Heeter Direct are providing its customers more versatile folded and saddle-bound finishing solutions. Both installations were facilitated by Graphco, a provider of Standard Horizon finishing solutions.
Heeter chose a Horizon StitchLiner 5500 saddle-binding solution, which utilizes the latest in 2D barcode matching for full-data integrity. The machine can process booklets from either digital or offset output at speeds up to 5,500 booklets/hr.
Heeter also acquired a Horizon AFC 566 FG for large-volume package inserts or small, more intricate, fold applications. "Our folder operators love the speed and easy setup on the Horizon folder," states Scott Heeter, president. "Our investment in these two Horizon systems...was both a technology decision and a wise business decision, as well."
Specialty Finishing Group Expands With the Acquisition of Delta Press
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL—As the largest commercial bindery and lettershop in the Midwest, Specialty Finishing Group (SFG) has become even larger after a merger with Franklin Park, IL-based Delta Press, a company that provides diecutting, foil stamping, embossing and other specialized finishing to area commercial printers.
Delta Press was originally a commercial printer when it was formed almost 70 years ago. The company decided to focus on graphic arts finishing in the mid-1980s. It will move into SFG's headquarters later this year.
The addition of Delta Press expands SFG's product line of postpress binding processes like spiral wire, plastic coil, double-wire, padding and perfect binding.
SFG CEO Jim Gallo says his company did a lot of homework when looking for a partner. "We talked to many of our customers to get a better feel of what they thought of Delta. The overwhelming response was that they always send Delta their more difficult or specialized jobs."
Michael Naselli, formerly Delta Press's president, is now SFG's new vice president. "It was important for me to find a buyer that would result in a win for our customers, have a good working environment for our employees, and a place where I felt John and I would be able to work well with the new owners," he explains.
