Digital Finishing Captivates Audience
LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND—In an effort to show attendees how to "Grow with Digital Solutions," Muller Martini showcased its Primera Digital saddlestitching system during Hunkeler Innovationdays in February. The system, geared toward full-color, digitally printed magazines, periodicals and brochures, was demonstrated in conjunction with a Hunkeler unwind unit and a sheeter.
U.S.-based printers who attended the event voiced their enthusiasm for the future of digital book manufacturing. "The new possibilities that have been opened up in the field of digital printing are definitely a hot topic, and Muller Martini is truly showing us what it's all about," said Bill Graushar, vice president of postpress technology at Quad/Graphics, Sussex, WI. Steve Ellithorpe, operations manager at Los Angeles-based O'Neil Data Systems, added that "the Primera Digital system is the perfect combination of traditional finishing methods and new digital technology."
New Buckle-Plate Folder Bolsters Zoo Printing's Operation
LOUISVILLE, KY—Zoo Printing, a Web-to-print, gang-run, trade printing business based in Commerce, CA, has added a Heidelberg Stahlfolder KH-78 continuous-feed, buckle-plate folder with cross-fold unit, feeder and stream delivery to its 40,000-square-foot manufacturing facility here. The folder joins a pair of Heidelberg Polar 137 XT and two Polar 115 XT cutting systems, and a pair of B-20 and B-30 continuous-feed folders.
According to Ark Andoun, ZooEast general manager, the intelligent automation and optimized operation of the new folder has also greatly reduced the wear-and-tear on the company's operators when handling calendar, catalog and similar jobs requiring 28x40˝ sheets and eight- to 12-page signatures.
