Spiel Open House Results in Orders
LONG ISLAND CITY, NY—Spiel Associates, a source for new and used bindery equipment, hosted an open house on Nov. 10 and 11 at its facility here.
On hand were the Sterling line of perfect binders, automatic punches, coil binders and coil formers, as well as the Rilecart line of double-loop wire binders. Also showcased were the Graphic Whizard line of creasers and UV coaters. Spiel also demonstrated dozens of used machines, including corner cutters, collators, perfect binders and stitchers that were reconditioned.
The open house resulted in numerous orders, according to David Spiel.
Cutter Replaces 25-Year-Old Unit
SHEBOYGAN, WI—A Heidelberg Polar 115 X programmable paper cutter has replaced Boneck Printing's old Polar ECM cutter. "We cut everything from raw sheets to finished pads on the Polar machine," says Tom Behrens, president. "Although we've been up and running for only a few weeks, my operators are telling me how happy they are with the cutter, especially the ease of programming and maintenance, step-by-step alerts and the streamlined OptiKnife knife changing. We hope to be at least 30 percent more productive than we were."
Boneck handles a variety of commercially offset printed products, including brochures, catalogs, POP displays and envelopes, as well as flexographic roll labels.
BIA Contest Entries Are Being Accepted
PITTSBURGH—The Binding Industries Association (BIA) is accepting entries for its 2011 Product of Excellence Awards (POE). The contest recognizes outstanding craftsmanship in binding, graphic finishing and custom loose-leaf manufacturing. These awards celebrate all aspects of finishing and cover nearly 40 different categories that range from mechanical folding to cut-flush binders.
Recipients of an award will be featured on www.bindingawards.com, where potential customers can review the winning pieces. Winners will also receive a self-promotion kit to publicize their success.
According to Kris Bovay, general manager of Pacific Bindery Services, "For more than three decades, this competition has been committed to honoring quality craftsmanship. It's crucial to see how you stack up against your competition."
