Printer Takes Next Step Toward Automating Operations Company-Wide
BARRE, VT—L. Brown and Sons Printing recently took delivery of a fully automated, continuous-feed Heidelberg Stahlfolder TH 82 with Level 3 automation, as well as a six-color Speedmaster CD 74 perfector.
The purchases represent the next step in the company's move to automate as many of its operations as possible via Heidelberg's Prinect workflow. Its most recent software upgrade included Prinect Prinance MIS, and the printer plans to acquire a new stacker and banding unit for the TH 82 folder.
The firm, which uses the complete line of Saphira products for all of its consumable needs, also plans to purchase an ST 450 saddlestitcher next, followed by a second 29˝ Heidelberg perfecting press.
Digital Finishing Solutions Enhance Book Manufacturing
ANDOVER, MA—Arvato Digital Services, a division of Bertelsmann AG, has enhanced its feeding and finishing fleet with Standard Horizon and Hunkeler solutions in both California and South Carolina.
At its South Carolina plant, Arvato added a Horizon BQ-470 binder, as well as a StitchLiner 5500 saddlestitching line. In California, the company installed a Hunkeler Gen6 roll-to-stack system in-line with its Océ VarioStream 7650 digital printer. The Hunkeler system is capable of delivering book blocks two- or three-up, as well as slit/merge.
"Standard has a solid track record providing rugged and reliable gear for our on-demand binderies," says Todd Potrykus, director, POD, Arvato Digital Services.
Arvato acquired the StitchLiner 5500 for its South Carolina plant based, in part, on their experience with two identical lines they operate in California. "The StitchLiners have been very dependable running multiple shifts," he adds, "so we wanted to replicate that capability at our other facility."
