Folder Chosen for Its User-Friendliness
ONTARIO, CA—One Stop Label & Packaging recently installed a Vijuk V-14 SAF commercial/miniature folder. Jorge Navarro, owner and vice president, says, "Three factors were very important to us in looking for a folder. One was ease of machine adjustment, given that the sizes of the booklets we produce vary quite a bit. Also, we wanted a high machine throughput to be able to slash our production time. And, we wanted ease of use.
"User-friendliness in the V-14 folder is critical for us since we run two shifts, and we can't have just one dedicated specialist running the machine," he adds. "We want pretty much anyone on the production floor to be able to run the machine."
Diecutter Augments Shop's Fleet
PLYMOUTH, MN—Daily Printing, a specialty commercial printer, has installed a Heidelberg Varimatrix 105 CS diecutter with cutting and stripping capabilities. The printer will keep its existing diecutter, but purchased the new unit as insurance in case the older machine fails to meet throughput demands.
Both diecutters run full-time across one shift and turn out POP materials, pocket folders, packaging, direct mail, and perform perfing and scoring in run lengths of 2,000 to 5,000 pieces for retail and manufacturing customers. "Not only is the Varimatrix faster and more efficient," says Peter Jacobson, president, "but it's also a lot quieter, which our operators definitely appreciate."
Heidelberg equipment in the printer's pressroom includes a six-color Speedmaster XL 105; a two-color Speedmaster SM 102 perfector; a six-color Speedmaster CD 74; and a pair of six-color Heidelberg CD 102s. Its bindery features an assortment of Stahl folders, a six-pocket Stitchmaster ST 400 saddlestitcher and various Polar cutting systems.
Printer Adds Platen Diecutting Services
BOGALUSA, LA—Delta Printing has added platen diecutting to its list of services by acquiring a Bobst Commercial 106 Autoplaten diecutter. At the same time, Delta also installed a Bobst Visionfold 110 folder/gluer, which allows the company to provide full packaging/carton capabilities.
The shop provides commercial and label printing services to the food, beverage and auto parts markets.
Adding diecutting and folding/gluing allows Delta to offer customers a single location and point of contact for all of their printing, finishing and packaging requirements. The new diecutter handles lightweight papers and can cut materials from 0.004–0.160˝ in thickness. It also features a built-in stripping station, which eliminates the need for hand stripping of the finished diecuts.
New Stitcher Helps Increase Versatility
ATLANTA—Installing a Muller Martini PrimaPlus SB saddle stitcher has helped Geographics Inc. increase its capabilities and responsiveness to customers.
The unit features selective binding capability, as well as AMRYS automatic makeready. It was configured at the printer with six horizontal pockets with stream feeders, four horizontal pockets for manual feeding, one cover folder feeder and one card folder feeder. It's also equipped with Asir 3 automatic signature image recognition.
"We added the Muller Martini PrimaPlus so we could ink-jet addresses as we stitch, plus automatically insert reply cards and blow in other items," says Ray Weidele, plant manager. "Previously, this required additional operations in our fulfillment department."
Stitcher Meets the Need for Speed
MINNEAPOLIS—Japs-Olson has installed a Goss Pacesetter 2200 saddlestitcher in its production facility. The unit can stitch up to 22,000 booklets per hour and has inside/outside addressing capability.
The 2200 is designed to run continuously with minimal downtime, and is the fifth one for Japs-Olson as it meets growing customer demand for booklets.
"The Pacesetter 2200 is another significant improvement we've made in our finishing capabilities," says Japs-Olson CEO Mike Beddor. "It increases our speed and gives us additional versatility to stitch a variety of booklet formats. With the 2200, we can run a maximum of four stitcher heads at a time."
The machine is equipped with eight independent, servo-driven vertical hoppers plus a cover and card feeder, which can be repositioned to accommodate most formats.
