Bookmasters Offers More Options for Color in Books with Océ JetStream Printer
TRUMBULL, CT—Nov. 16, 2011—Océ, a Canon Group company and international leader in digital document management, announced that book manufacturer Bookmasters is now able to give their customers affordable color quality in short runs of printed books by installing an Océ JetStream 1000 production printer.
“We can provide more options for paperback and case-bound, print-on-demand jobs for clients that need affordable short print runs. This strengthens our customer relationships and gives us a competitive product to help us stand out in the market,” said Bookmasters’ Manufacturing Services President Ray Sevin.
With full-color inkjet digital printing, Bookmasters no longer has to print an entire book in color just to accommodate a few full-color pages. The Océ JetStream capabilities allow it to drop in a full-color page anywhere in a book with industry leading prices. Bookmasters pairs the Océ JetStream 1000 digital inkjet system with an inline Lasermax slitter/cutter and Mueller-Martini Sigma finishing system for an end-to-end solution.
“The quality of the Océ JetStream digital printer rivals toner-based and offset printing, but is more affordable for short runs and POD. The lower cost per impression and the speed of the Océ JetStream 1000 system make it a superior option for our print-on-demand customers,” added Sevin.
Publishing at the Tipping Point
Bookmasters’ inkjet solution brings the tipping point for digital vs. offset printing to the 2,000–4,000 unit range, making digital output a viable alternative for a wider audience of trade and science/technical/medical publishers.
“Leading book manufacturers like Bookmasters are taking full advantage of inkjet technologies to serve their clients in new ways. As digital continues to transform the book publishing industry, Océ is taking a leadership role in helping companies in this market find the best ways to bring more value to their customers,” said Francis McMahon, vice president of marketing, Océ North America, Production Printing Systems.
The popularity of print-on-demand and short-run digital printing in the book market is rising because publishers can:
- Minimize return risk;
- Reduce inventory financing, obsolescence, and storage costs;
- Save on freight and handling;
- Get books to market faster; and
- Lower unit printing costs.
