Braintree Printing Publishes Poetry Books for Fourth Graders
BRAINTREE, MA—March 28, 2013—Though most of Braintree Printing’s customers are small to mid-sized businesses, the Braintree, MA-based quick printer also supports non-profit organizations, particularly those with an interesting printing challenge. So when an elementary school from Virginia contacted the printer and asked for help publishing a literary magazine, the company’s owners were happy to help.
As part of a classroom project, 150 fourth graders at Lewis and Clark Elementary School studied famous poets and wrote their own original poems. “They worked diligently to create haiku poems, cinquain poems, imagery and free verse poems,” said teacher Courtney Lander who documented the collaboration with Braintree Printing on a WordPress Website. The site shows students at work and details the printing process that turned 129 student poems and one short story into a 60-page book.
Braintree Printing owner, Jim Corliss, said his company’s book publishing service has grown dramatically. It caters to a range of customers, from new authors who want a few paperbacks to corporations printing thousands of catalogues. Printing is done on a Xerox iGen4 digital press and an Océ black and white high speed copier. A Horizon BQ-470 binds publications and a Horizon HT-30 robotic trimmer cuts them to size.
Liz Rowe, Braintree Printing’s online controller, corresponded with the Virginia elementary school and kept them updated on their book’s progress through the WordPress Website. “The students were passionate about the whole publishing process,” remarked Rowe. Lander said her experience with Braintree Printing was exceptional. “I was worried about working with a company in another state but Liz was there with support every step of the way. Students loved the Website and we checked it daily. Braintree Printing really goes out of the way to establish a relationship with customers. I look forward to working with them again.”
