Wayne "Bumps" Brown, 88, Founded Brown Printing
INDIAN WELLS, CA—Wayne "Bumps" Brown, a World War II veteran who returned home and started Brown Printing in Waseca, MN, died July 23 at the age of 88, The (Mankato, MN) Free Press reported.
Mr. Brown was the son of newspaper publisher Donald Brown. He joined his father and two brothers in founding Brown Printing in 1949 as the printing arm for the Waseca Journal and Herald. The company quickly grew to one of the largest in the country. Sold to German concern Gruner + Jahr in 1979, it has grown to a $382 million performer, good for 18th on Printing Impressions' PI 400 list of largest companies.
Mr. Brown actually sold the firm in 1969 to Minneapolis-based Bemis Corp., but remained with the company through its sale to Gruner + Jahr, the Free Press said.
