SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — July 18, 2016 — The Graphic Communication Institute (GrCI) at Cal Poly will offer a two-day workshop, "Color Management and Press Optimization," Aug. 22-23, at Cal Poly.
Presented in English and Spanish, this workshop will provide participants with in-depth knowledge of how color management, quality control and press efficiency are connected.
The workshop will explain the technology behind fundamental color management techniques and provide a complete understanding of colorimetry principles, including their practical application in the pressroom. With both theoretical sessions, as well as hands-on exercises in Cal Poly’s well-equipped laboratories, participants will be introduced to the operation of densitometers and spectrophotometers, and how to interpret their readings, as well as how to create monitor, proofing and press profiles.
"There is no question that having a strategy for managing color will reduce waste, improve quality and boost the ability to meet customer expectations on press," says GrCI Director Lyndee Sing. "Such a strategy will not only set the stage for product consistency, but will also increase profitability."
Sing continues, "This program is the first of its kind at the GrCI to offer Spanish-speaking print industry professionals a systematic way to standardize their color management practices and to get their production teams on the same page."
Fabian Ruiz, director for the Printing Industries of America in Latin America, will lead the workshop with support from Cal Poly experts in digital and traditional imaging and print communication."
Ruiz said adds, "This is a unique program, as it combines the fundamentals of color management with the practical applications of using color-measuring equipment, to calibrate, characterize and optimize the reproduction of a lithographic printing press. This program will bring practical solutions to attendees by providing easy-to-understand steps that couple new technology ideas with proven, time-honored methods."
The workshop is designed for digital press operators, offset press operators, pressroom supervisors, prepress supervisors and technicians, quality assurance managers and printing equipment suppliers. Registration is limited to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
