Canfield & Tack Experiencing Greater Capacity with Colter & Peterson’s Reconditioned Paper Cutter
PATERSON, NJ—February 10, 2015—Approaching its 90th anniversary, Canfield & Tack has over the years relied on top-notch equipment and intuitive decisions to deliver high quality commercial printing for its list of customers in Rochester, NY, and the Tri-State area. A recent first-time equipment acquisition from Colter & Peterson not only provides them with the same model and size back-end machines for continuity purposes, but also is producing better-than-expected results.
"Since we added the reconditioned 45" Polar paper cutter, it has delivered great results," remarked Jason Henderberg, a 20-year employee who has served as Canfield & Tack’s director of manufacturing for the last five years. "We wanted a serviceable machine and the same exact size to match the other two Polar units we have. In the four months we’ve had it, this cutter is providing additional capacity and producing above and beyond the other two."
Colter & Peterson is North America’s largest independent distributor of paper cutters and paper handling equipment. The company manufactures new machines but craftsmen with many years of experience also expertly rebuild paper cutters. A meeting between Henderberg and C&P’s Regional Sales Manager Sean Solomon, set everything in motion.
"We’ve done business together over the years and we ran into each other at a PIA Quality seminar in Dallas last spring," recalled Henderberg. "I explained to Sean that we were looking to replace a really old paper cutter and he was able to come up with a solution for us that fit our budget."
That solution is paying off in spades for Canfield & Tack, where business is strong. The full service provider once specialized in large volume work but has experienced greater success in the last decade since branching out to other areas. In addition to its sheetfed and offset business, there is plenty of digital and wide format work to go around, and a job can range from as little as 500 pieces to a run of 50,000 or more. All of the direct mail work is now done in-house, and a fulfillment/distribution center operates from a dedicated 50,000-square-foot building.
"We run 24/6 and use the reconditioned cutter 12 hours a day for sheetfed and digital work. We use it to cut blank stock for our 20" and 40" presses," informed Henderberg, who has a three-man crew operate the trio of cutters.
"We also have a reconditioned jogging unit on our floor," he added. "It’s sandwiched between two of the paper cutters and it helps keep things moving, plus it helps with the additional capacity. This is a result of the work C&P did before delivering the machine. They were well prepared and took pictures of our space and equipment. When it came time to install everything it was great. Their technicians were very helpful, everything fit as planned, and we were up-and-running very quickly."
