Canon to Launch ColorStream 6000 Chroma Press, Workflow Solutions at drupa
DÜSSELDORF, Germany — March 3, 2016 — At drupa 2016, Canon Europe, world-leader in imaging solutions, will look to impress visitors with the live, industrial-scale production of finished products on end-to-end solutions. Cementing its position as a leading developer of continuous-feed inkjet technologies for production print, Canon will showcase a complete line-up of high performance presses for business communications, publishing and commercial print applications.
The presses on the stand (Hall 8a, Stand B50) will include the Océ ImageStream 2400 and two lines of the newly announced Océ ColorStream 6000 Chroma (click here to read more about the Océ ColorStream 6000 Chroma press) featuring high-end configurations for specific market segments.
Océ ImageStream 2400 — First Installations
The ImageStream 2400 continuous-feed inkjet press will be exhibited for the first time at an open exhibition. The press is now shipping commercially and has been successfully installed with customers across Europe.
The first print service provider to install the device was Totem, the largest digital printing house in Poland. Specializing in short-run book production, Totem needed digital technology that would enable them to meet the growing demand for fast turnaround of very short, high-quality runs, allowing their customers to offer a greater range of titles while retaining little or no stock.
Michal Rejnowski, CEO and owner of Totem.com.pl comments, "We looked carefully at a number of options and decided to invest in the ImageStream 2400 because of its unique ability to print at high quality on standard offset coated stock at high speed. The device has certainly met our expectations in terms of print quality and has allowed us to speed up our delivery process and be more flexible in production."
New Océ ColorStream 6000 Chroma Demonstrates Fully Automated Book Production
One of the application highlights of the Canon stand at drupa 2016 will be the brand’s new continuous feed inkjet press – the Océ ColorStream 6000 Chroma — showing absolute on-demand book production in sharp color quality.
The press will be configured as a completely integrated system with the Zero Speed Splicer u40 and Libra One book block solution from Canon finishing partner Tecnau. This unique configuration lifts books-on-demand production to a new level: from continuous roll to book blocks with variable page count and format, involving on-the-fly paper changes, signature changes from 2- to 3-up, at production speeds of up to 127 meters per minute.
The high-volume production of a 'book of one' truly unleashes on-demand book printing. The solution will demonstrate the production of pre-glued book blocks, ready for near-line binding on the Libra 800 variable binder. Not only can visitors see the production of key future-proof applications. They will also be inspired by the broad range of workflow solutions on display, introduced and explained by the Canon team of business and technical consulting experts.
Featuring the new Chromera ink set, which offers sharp color fidelity to unleash new opportunities in commercial print, the ColorStream 6000 Chroma is ideal for a broad spectrum of demanding print applications. Its modular design and configuration flexibility seamlessly integrates with existing workflows for the efficient, reliable and sustainable production of mail, publishing and commercial applications. With the ColorStream 6000 Chroma at drupa, Canon will be demonstrating the production of multiple finished applications for all target segments.
Peter Wolff, director, Commercial Print Group at Canon comments, "Canon’s portfolio of continuous feed technologies — including the Océ ColorStream, ImageStream, JetStream and VarioStream ranges — continues to lead the way in high-speed industrial digital printing. At drupa we will be exhibiting a range of applications processed by our high-end, industrial strength continuous feed inkjet engines to inspire our customers and other visitors to explore new business models across multiple areas of the commercial printing industry, from graphic arts through to transactional and direct mail."
Workflow Solutions
Canon will also introduce a number of innovative features to its workflow solutions portfolio for inkjet systems:
Color Control Suite — Specifically designed for Canon’s high performance inkjet production devices, Color Control Suite is a comprehensive new tool box with an easy-to-use GUI that enables automated ink limit determination and matches quality levels across multiple presses or print sites. The software also generates reports based on measurement data for long-term quality trends, analysis and corrections.
Reinforcing Canon's commitment to the graphic arts market, Color Control Suite allows the brand’s color consultants and customer color specialists to generate high-end ICC or device link profiles and to optimize quality for each paper to achieve best-in-class color mapping across papers and printers.
TrueProof v5.0 — A highly comprehensive "what-you-see-is-what-you-get" proofing solution, TrueProof shortens the time for generating and approving new applications and eliminates the costs related to the set-up, downtime, consumables and labour involved in producing proofs on a production press. Developed in response to extensive customer feedback and demand for precise proofing, TrueProof v5.0 offers optional modules for soft- and hardcopy proofing, making it a holistic color proofing workflow solution.
