Canon's Innovation Earns it Position Among Top Three U.S. Patent Holder Companies
MELVILLE, N.Y. — January 12, 2017 — Redefining the boundaries of what’s possible through its strong focus on innovation, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announced that its parent company, Canon Inc., has for the 31st consecutive year, secured a spot among the top three companies for U.S. patent holders. According to patent results issued by IFI CLAIMS Patent Services, Canon was granted a total of 3,665 patents for 2016, further demonstrating Canon’s continued path of innovation to help see the impossible.

This is the 31st consecutive year that Canon Inc., has been ranked among the top five U.S. patent holders and for the 12th consecutive year, ranked first among Japanese companies for the number of U.S. patents granted. The patents granted demonstrate the company’s commitment to using a robust set of intellectual property rights to develop visionary solutions in consumer, business and medical areas. This announcement comes on the heels of the Consumer Electronics Show, where Canon unveiled its “Visionaries Welcome” ethos and displayed products featuring previous patented technology, including Canon’s 250 megapixel sensor.
