DALLAS—November 20, 2013—Graphic Art Systems, a U.S.-based developer and manufacturer of foil enhancement equipment, today announced the completed installation of its Eco-Eagle Cold Foil system at the U.S. headquarters of Cartamundi and Elite Packaging. Cartamundi is established as the worldwide leader in the production of playing, trading, collectible and game card products for casinos, home entertainment houses, software developers, and of course both trading and collectible card manufacturers. With the installation completed just weeks ago, the impact of the Eagle System is already telling. For the card leader, in-house cold foil translates to faster turnaround and very competitive pricing for an ever-expanding customer base.
“Eagle offers us an All-American made machine that’s extremely user-friendly, operates as a standalone unit, and comes with the renowned hands-on guidance of Mike King and his crew,” noted Bob Nickel, vice president, Specialty Packaging Innovative Technology/R&D for Cartamundi USA. “Whenever you’re driving into new territory, a little hand-holding is critical. Eagle has made the investigation, installation and implementation of cold foil into Cartamundi easy. We’ve spent over nine months researching how we could best inject cold foil into our workflows. And we analyzed every available option. After visiting current Eagle users to see the system in action, the last step was to visit Mike and his team at PRINT in September. We received the system right out of their booth, but by then we were already sold.
Nickel also added that after a two-day install [they expected three to four], the company has already run three jobs through the Eagle System and its KBA 106 Press, and customers are overwhelmed by the results and accelerated turnaround time.”
The Eco-Eagle Cold Foil System
The Eco-Eagle Cold Foil system is a value-added finishing technique for cold foil applications. The add-on system can retrofit to new or existing 28˝ up to 80˝ sheetfed offset presses from most major press manufacturers. It offers users the flexibility to apply a single 40˝ width of foil or multiple widths of foil, in any combination, as narrow as 2˝. This ability greatly reduces foil cost and consumption. In addition, the cold foil system operates on about the same amount of electricity as a 1,500 watt hair dryer, reducing energy demands in production environments.
The Eco-Eagle system provides the benefits of high-quality performance and reliability, as well as efficient machine-ability and cost effectiveness. Spot or overall foil coverage is printed inline and then overprinted at standard press speeds. The process uses standard printing plates and features setup times of less than 10 minutes. Eco-Eagle is completely automated thereby eliminating the human interface and operator/machine intervention.
