Komori America Corporation, a premier manufacturer of printing solutions, announced that CastlePierce, a fifth-generation brand packaging and converting printer, has purchased an eight-color Komori Lithrone GX40 (GLX840) advance press with coater, UV and PQA-S camera system to be installed in February 2023. From its humble beginnings in a three-room building in downtown Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the company has experienced substantial year-over-year growth with its strategic decision to move from commercial print to brand packaging. The new press, along with two recent acquisitions, provided the ability to offer print on plastics and rigid set-up box packaging, as well as expand the growing market of folding paperboard cartons.
The company attributes its success to a singular focus on meeting the speed-to-market and flexibility needs of their target segments relating to food and beverage, beauty, healthcare, medical and pet products. Speed to market and flexibility were also the key drivers behind the selection of the Komori GLX840 advance. The sophistication of the GLX840 advance press makes it possible to run at a maximum speed of up to 18,000 sheets per hour and offers the substrate flexibility of printing on 40-pound paper up to 40-point board. The inclusion of UV curing and Komori PQA-S fully automatic color and register control will support the company’s ability to achieve the consistent color critical to the brands they serve. The inline coating unit allows them to offer embellishments, such as soft touch and gloss coating, which make a product stand out on the shelf.
“We are really excited about the expanded capacity this press is going to give us because we have grown the business largely due to our ability to meet extremely quick turnaround times,” said Jeff Elmer, technical manager for CastlePierce. “From our leadership on down, our goal has always been to ensure our customers can count on CastlePierce to meet even the most stringent delivery dates, and we win business because of that promise.”
Additional key drivers in the selection of the GLX840 advance included its ability to print on a wider format sheet, reaching to 29” x 41,” and added capability that makes it possible to switch back and forth from conventional, hybrid and UV inks without affecting the machine’s performance.
“CastlePierce has a well-earned reputation for exceptional customer service,” said Clark Scherer, district sales manager at Komori America. “We are pleased to provide the technology needed to help the CastlePierce team continue to thrive in the dynamic packaging marketplace and to meet their continued goal to get to market quickly with outstanding quality packaging that sells.”
